GU - alternate passenger storage space?

Post by Sydneysider »

Hey folks,

Got GU Patrol recently with only an airbag on the drivers side. Messing around on the passenger side to check if it has a passenger airbag (it doesn't), I discovered that the blanking panel that they have in place of it has plenty of room behind it.

Does anybody know of someone who manufactures a storage compartment/glovebox that I can put in , in place of the blanking plate?

Seem like a perfect opportunity to add some useful storage room....

ive already taken the front panel off mine.........i was gonna have a go at dodging one up myself. all ya need is a piano hinge for the removable cover, a catch for it ( i was gonna try a magnetic one) and then as you see in the pics on the site linked above, dodge up a box and carpet it........

it doesnt look too hard, but i havent actually got a jigsaw out yet............

been thinking bout this myself and thought I'd try whats known as a push-to-close catch (available at cabinet makers suppliers) they hold better than mag ones and are concealed inside.

They are mostly metal with a placky hook bit on em. We use em in kitchens and they seem ok. better than mag ones with junk bouncing around inside. Go have alook at cab makers supply. I'm pretty sure thats what theyre called.

I have also been looking at using this space for an aftermarket glovebox.

Has anyone else in this thread completed theirs?
Did you use the kit from consoles.com? If not, how did you knock up a pocket?

I was innitially going to make up my own box, but if the pocket/insert supplied by consoles.com is neat, then I may just pay the $80 and get that?

Thanks,
Jonty
