i have a 2002 gu patrol with 6 inch spring lift a 2 inch body lift and 35s. does this mean i am now screwed?

its not engineered but its also my work truck so i could be really screwed.
a mate got his gq engineered with 8 inch springs 3 inch body lift and his 38s on might have to see that engineer.

which 38's? Cant really think of many road legal ones..
I've just been told no chance with JT2's due to bias construction, and these do have speed and weight ratings.

Yes, and bias ply have never been legal in NSW guys, doesn't meen people don't run em, and this will not stop it either.......kind of funny that so many people with big rigs that are not engineered that I have been speaking to latley are so woried about it, they have being running big mods for a few years wioth no engineersw, and for some reason they are woried now I will not fit my gear with out engineers, I will supply and its up to you (with disclaimer of being offroad kit) but if you want fittment than engineers is a must

u do need it engineered, but u can buy a valve, that when the car is drivin, it sits at a normal ride height, and can't be adjusted,

I don't really see a problem with these changes. For those with vehicles that are not currently engineered they still have to run the same risks. If i had hit someone in my old 4runner (not engineered) and killed them, i'd be up for manslaughter. That is the risk that you run, regardless of the changes.
I can see that on the competition scene we are going to have larger numbers of newer, stock vehicles competing whilst the more modified classes will comprise largely of your older trucks. Even with the max lift rules being imposed, you'll still be able to build capable trucks.
Like with all rules, they will be able to be bent and manipulated. An example of this is the mogrover. With exception of some modifications, it has minimal lift yet is pushing the limits in the hardest comps in australia.
I wonder what the rulings will be on chassis modification such as dropped hangers and shortening?

I think dropped hangers would definately be a part of lift no matter how you look at it. And surely chassis chopping is fine if braced correctly.
I have to get engineered for rego anyway, the last step......AHHHHHHH.
So I'll be calling an engineer tomorrow and booking whether these rules are rumour or truthful. Either way I might see if I can get another couple of inches in mine before the apointment to max it. Doubt I will have the time though

They might just start enforcing existing laws, like the amount of vehicles illegaly fitted with 31" tyres, as your only allowed to increase tyre/wheel combination diameter by 15mm over the largest optional tyre/wheel combination available for your vehicle without needing an engineers certificate.
It's a little ammusing to see people jump up and down scared of "future rule changes" when they don't even realise how blatently abused the existing ones are.

people might find it hard to get a booking with an engineer if this is true, as everyone will be on the phone

Just on the tyres - many bias ply are indeed road legal...the catch is your vechile must have had bias ply from the factory.....and if it was then strictly speaking you shouldn't run Radials on it
