Front right hub/front diff ??

Post by Gobbles »

Hey guys,

Its been a rough two or so weeks for my MU....poor thing has taken 2 bumps to the rear right panel...one dinting and one severly scratching the paintwork and to make things better i got a puncture the other night and had to limp home...but thats another story. Anyway when i was out at Ormeau with a few mates last weekend i dropped into a hole and heard something crunch under my feet at the front of the car around the suspension/hub/diff area..... Now we had a quick look and couldnt see anything wrong but what the problem im having now is that when im in 4H or 4L and i plant the power on all i hear from the front is grinding....but it still grips and when i ease the power on it revs all the way to 4200 or so perfectly fine without an issue. Obvioulsy i want this to stop so can anyone narrow the problem down and give me an idea of what cost im going to be looking at?

Cheers
Kurt.

Sounds similar to an issue i had with my auto hubs. When in 1st and 2nd low range, with all the touqe going through the front , the hubs made 'baning' and 'clinking' sounds when they were under load. but once you got going all was fine.
The problem ended up beeing the circlips which came loose, i just ended up canging the auto hubs to manual rodeo/Jakaroo ones... Tho now my manual habs are causing me the same drmas again....but its an easy fix.
Puting new hubs on will cost about 150 for the pair, but new hubs may not be nessersary.
thats just one posibility tho, could be many other things.. :?

Well for those that are interested...It was the bearings on the CV that were almost out...apparently the cv has come disconnected from the hub and there was no drive to the front right wheel and there was limited and about to be no drive to the front left wheel...hopefully problem sorted.
