Hi
I have been in touch with the RTA and they have told me that I can't go any wider than 7 inch rims on my NG without an Engineers inspection. Does anyone know if they are available?
Also, I want to increase the height at the rear by replacing the coils. i noticed that some people used coils from a Patrol. Why is that and which spring? I called around and found that they are the same price in Kings for and NG or a patrol. So why use patrol springs?
If patrol springs are better, why? and which model is best?

I'm not sure I'd trust that RTA info - who did you speak to? Sometimes the people who answer the phone don't really know, and don't care enough to find out. Have a hunt on their website for their published guidelines - last I heard you could go up to 8", but not over.
People fit Patrol springs from a wrecker. Because Patrols are heavier than Pajeros the factory springs are stiffer than Pajero factory, so s/h Patrol springs are bargain priced "heavy duty" Pajero springs.

Also, does anyone know what the actual lift would be? ie the distance between bottom of rim to guard?
regarding the rims, I spoke with the RTA guy with their regulations in front of me, and it is clear that the width can only be increased by 1 inch from standard.

Thanks for your help and the link, but I still don't know if the Patrol springs will actually fit under my NG. It's probably there on th link but I can't find it. I also was wondering if anyone who has put the nissan springs under an NG, what the measurement is from the guard to the bottom of the rim. Just so I can then measure what I have now and see if it would be worth the change in springs.

I have patrol springs in the back of my 88 NF LWB. From bottom of rim to guard is now 810mm. Can't remember what stock was now, but I seem to remember almost 3" difference after I fitted the springs. Best ten bucks I ever spent. Well worth the effort.
92 NH Pajero, MQ Patrol 50mm lift. One has custom rust, dents & rattles, the other has a blown engine.
Go the standard GQ rear coils (not GU) we worked out that standard GQ rear coils will lift a Gen 2 lwb about 2". It's probly a cheap alternative to buying new Mitsi coils. Mine runs 3" raised GQ coils and the total lift was about 5". GU's run heavier springs again so you will probly end up with more lift than you want/need if you use these.
Remember Gen 2 rear coils are stiffer than the Gen 1 versions so you will probly end up with about a 3" lift.
Note :-
- GQ Patrols (square boxy shape) = 88-98
- GU Patrols (current shape) = 98 on

Thanks heaps everyone for your help. I haven't had a great look yet for nissan springs, but one wriecker tried to sell me a pair of springs for $150 !! I can buy a brand new pair for 30 bucks more!! I guess I'll keep on looking!
yes you can get a new pair for $140+$25 freight off me.
I have a set 2nd hand GQ standard coils in the shed if anyone is interested. I suppose I could sell them for $30 for a rear pair and I could freight them for $30.
