what ratio in GQ??

I am looking to buy a pair of GQ diffs, out of a '90 model GQ TD42. I have not checked the ratio, as I am unsure how to, as they have Air Lockers fitted, so are open centres, and I think when open, they rotate at twice the speed?

As I understand it, they should either be 4.1 or 4.3....

Would anyone know more? Please?

ok.

from memory...

all the TD42s came with 4.1s

TB42s came with 4.1's and 3.9s

and 4.3 diffs only came out in some GQ utes and the 3 litre petrol (rb30) GQ's

and the 4.6's out of the 2.8 TD GQ's

to work out ratio... if thats what you're asking (sorry your question was a bit hard to work out - rotate twice the speed )

- add up the crown teeth up and divided by the number of teeth on the pinon to work out the ratio.. eg 39 crown teeth divided by 9 pinon teeth - 4.3 diff ratios.. (not exactly sure if thats the correct for the GQ 4.3 but its an example)

to work it out on the vehicle..

- jack up both wheels (if LSD rear) or one side (if open). Mark a spot on the tailshaft and rotate the wheel in forward direction 10 times and count the number of turns the shaft turns.. - eg 43 times divided by 10 turns - 4.3 so on..

The easiest way to tell if you have the centre out, is to mark the crown wheel with white out, and mark pinion flange, rotate crown wheel one full turn and pinion flange will turn 4.1 turns if it is a 4.1, and 4.6 turns if its a 4.6 and so on.....

unfortunatly the diffs are out, and sitting on the ground.may have to lift one side up in the air to check them.

all 4.2's wagons and shortys got 4.1 diffs unless it was an auto then they got 3.9

not all autos have 3.9s... ive seen them come out with 4.1's.. so basically its varied between 3.9s and 4.1s

I have 2 genuine nissan centres in the shed, neither of them have the ratio stamped on them and I know for a fact the ones in my MK don't either, unless they have changed in the later models.

I have a '90 td42 its got 4.11s and I ave a 3.9 centre and I cant see anything stamped on it.....you may need to count the teeth
