IFS Lux Front Diff Swap
Mate has a IFS Hilux Surf with 2LTE. Wants to change his gearing to suit his bigger tyres. Can anyone tell me what model IFS hilux has a front diff with 4.88 diff gears that is basically a straight swap for his IFS diff? (the rear is already sorted). I'm told most petrol models have these diff gears but can anyone confirm which models?
Generally speaking the petrol hilux's have 4.88 gearsets & the diesels have 4.3's.
4.1's are available from the front end of later model cruisers & aftermarket gearsets go up to 5.29.
As your mate has IFS, he will be limited to IFS gearset as the IFS had the 7.5" diff & the solid housing had the 8" & they are not inter-changable.
As he has a diesel, the petrol gearset from an IFS model would be the go.

Not sure what models but yes the petrols had 4.88.
Tell you mate if he can afford it put an ARB locker in the front at the same time because big tyres + IFS diff = broken crownwheel. An ARB helps strengthen the diff and stop the crownwheel flexing.
Paul.
