The one thing noticeable about the 12HT is how overly sensitive the engine is to the throttle pedal. Small bumps on the road makes the engine rev up.

Thats cool, thanks for the info Beanz2 . How much are the 12HT worth second hand these days? And would they be a better choice to say. bolting a turbo onto a 2H Motor?

thought id get back to the story line...the 12ht is an awsome motor, last ages and are tough...meaning torquey...from memory 350nm or similar...absolutely no comparison to a 2h with turbo, (imagine how far away they are 2h to 12ht)
Easiest way to get one is buy a wreck...they are expensive....if you get a pickles.com.au damaged vehicle, u will get the rest for nothing so to speak.

2H & 12HT have all the same clutch parts. A mate of mine just bought a 12HT to replace his 2H for a mere $2500 and it's in good nick too !
I have the 1HDT in a '89 60 series (original 2H), and used the 1HZ flywheel, 2H clutch plate and pressure plate, 80 series throw out bearing and 75 series bell housing and fork. All works OK by hanging the bearing out of the flywheel slightly to take the input shaft.
So is this Isuzu clutch a bigger diameter (12" - same as 1HDT) ? I've just finished off putting a Safari intercooler onto the 1HDT and am wondering if the 2H (Daikin Safari) clutch will hold on.
( 2H - 240 Nm / ic1HDT - 446 Nm / 85% increase in torque )

the isuzu part quoted is just the driven plate, and it is 12" to suit a 1HD-(F)T pressure plate, so in addition to that you have to also supply the pressure plate. but in your case don't you have a coarse spline input shaft on the H55F gearbox? in which case you would need to have a custom clutch plate built to get a 12" disk.
I think your safari tuff will be just ok/borderline, more of a worry is what 450Nm will do to the H55F...
is the Daikin safari tuff pressure plate different between 2H and 1HZ applications - in terms of clamping force or anything else?
I have a HZJ75 with one in it here, it is hell on the leg. the only 60 diesel I have driven with a safari tuff has a cllutch booster so comparison from the leg viewpoint is useless.

Yes, the Isuzu clutch is 300mm. But it fits a 21 spline input, so it will not work with a 2H gearbox.
So you kept the same gearbox? By how much did you have to leave the pilot bearing hanging out to engage the input shaft?
Did the 2H pressure plate bolt to the 1HZ flywheel or did you have new mounting holes drilled? Did you consider using a 1HZ pressure plate?

About 5mm.
How many kms have you driven with this configuration? Any premature wear on the pilot or gearbox input shaft bearing, etc.?

Not the driven plate, I meant the clutch cover / diaphragm plate.

Sorry, read that wrong, but no, I didnt consider it.
Have done about 55K like that (bearing hanging out) and only recently put the new clutch in with no apparent wear. The shaft sits inside OK and doesn't move around.
