ok, i want to move my fuel tank into the back, for two reasons, mine is getting farked (already holed it once) being under the back, and when i do the sas, the rear axle is going back 3 inches, so will go too close to the tank for my liking.

so, wat i want to know is, how big is a swb vit tank? or a sierra tank? and will it accept my pump/sender etc. as a straight bolt in? mine is an efi, so could i use a carby tank, or will i need a efi tank?

you could use a coily tank as the sende can be unbolted and a fuel pump bolted in its place. previous to that the tanks didnt have removeable senders.

The swb tank is the same width but is narrower slightly i am lead to believe

actually he means that a fuel pump can be fitted to the coiley tanks by removing the sender (and using vitara and/or jimny internal efi fuel pump......I think?)
altho they all have removeable senders, they cant all take the efi pumps...I aint 100% sure I am correct, tho

thats what i wanna know. which tank i can unbolt my pump and sender unit from, and bolt straigh back into.

preferably i'd like something a touch smaller seeing as its gonna be mounted inside, so a sierra tank is probably the go

quite difficult to fit an internal pump I'm told (by joey)

but use of a surge tank is good solution (thats what joey will do)

I was thinking of getting a fuel cell my mate can get them for $80 through work sounded like a bargain and i have to move my tank anyway because im doing 3/4 rear. Are these stronger or will a rock split it in 2(they use them in race cars so they should be strong).

thats very good price, they are quite strong, but most fit them higher up, or in the back.

a efi vit fuel pump will bolt into a coil sierra fuel tank...

it goes in where the fuel sender/return pipe goes.

I was talking to some ppl about getting a fuel cell and pretty much every person i asked said dont do it because it will stink of fume's. does anyone have this problem with it mounted on the back tray?

I think any fuel tank mounted inside the cab will smell.
Vents, fillers, tank etc all need to be external.
Mine is a nissan 260C fuel tank mounted in back of my ute, and no probs with fumes in cab...
except oil, mud and usual smells

K im still going to get it may just make a shroud around it to direct the fumes somewere else.

thats how a few of our members have done it.
some have sunk the tanks part way thru the floor, and put a top over them..

Anyone with a coily sierra be able to tell me the coily tank part number S)?

My 83 lire jackaroo tank. I am running a lift pump into a surge tank, then the EFI pump on the outlet side.

Shockies are now mounted on the front edge of the diff, with a shockie tower in the gap between the wall and the tank.




Clearance under the fuel tank has increased by over 300mm

that rear tray is sweet gutless. i can say that has to be the only ute conversion where 'yeah that could work'
i'm picturing a whole set of canvas bags, and maybe ex-ammo metal box with all your gear lashed down by a cargo net. All you need is the catch hooks on the side to make it work.

Did you fold the metal yourself or someone else... how much did it set you back?


As for Christopher i think these are like the first photos i've seen of your rig! (well other than random non descript shots of the engine bay.) It's nice and tidy. Still have the problem of me liking rear seat passangers (hey i'm young, it's a phase, it may take years for me to get over it and be like the rest of you)

Still i have no qualms with my tank size i'm just trying to sort out what electric fuel pump i'm using and preferably intank

it would only smell if you had a leak some where.
my filler and everything is external.

Yeah I like it

I did all the checker plate at home. prolly cost me about $200 in steel. The spare sits netly in the centre, and there is room on eiher side for a space case.

I have owned 7 different cars in my life, and all bar the pootrol were 2 seaters. Its great not feeling obliged to ferry people all over the place

bringing this back to top, cause i am finally getting around to moving my tank inside the cabin.

do you have any pics of your setup chopzuki? i was lookin at getting a fuel cell, but then i need a surge tank and all this other crap, so was just gonna use a standard tank, and move it into the back.
