33's on a 16x6" rim.

Post by Red_MAv »

I run 235/85R16 at the moment on standard Nissan 16x6" rims. I don't have any flares but I would like to go to 33"s which are a 255/85R16 and according to the fitment spec's on the BFG site the minimum rim size has to be 6.5"
I figure these are only 20mm wider overall so 10mm wider on the outside and wont protrude past the guard. My question is what is the likely effect of fitting these to the 16x6" rim. Will it cause any dramas, will it be illegal. The truck is only used as my toy and doesnt get driven day in day out. I am trying to keep this new tyres scenario as cheap as I can by not having to buy new rims and flares.

They are only a 31" tyre, not 33.

33 would be 275/75R16

Do the math.

It is spot on 33".

Should get away with 6" Rim on that width.

I know most people with 35's on 15x8's even though they are recommended to go onto 15x8.5. But on the 255/85R16. That is alot of side wall to be putting on to a narrow rim. I think it would end up with some weird handleing traits. Slow turn etc, if these are put onto 16x6's.

According to the BFG brochure its 33.3" but they specify a minimum 6.5" rim. I was hoping to get away with it on the 6" and figured its only half an inch so it may not matter. If its going to be dangerous I may have to come up with plan B.

Why not just try em on your 16x6's before plan B.

For a 20mm extra width I'd think they'd be alright.
