Hi folks.

The poor old Jacks been out of action for a coupla weeks with an electrical problem. Engine cranks but does not fire. Error code 42 is displayed which is to do with the electronic spark timing circuit. Has my local mechanic stumped and is about to get towed to Holden to get looked at. Anyone had this code come up for them before and if so what was the eventual cause/fix?

For those who dont know the vehicle is a '92 3.2L V6.

Any help appreciated.

All fixed, turned out to be a faulty immobiliser. :roll:

I removed a mates faulty immobiliser once. Although it was easy to diagnose as it was in an XY Falcon ute. It was the only electronic device there was to fail :lol:

The immobiliser was suggested in the early stages but as the engine was actually turning over it was thought that it probably wasnt the immobiliser as it normally cuts out everything when it is functioning. Obviously its a multi-system cutoff immobiliser and only one of the systems was faulty...
Unfortunately the mechanic had already tried replacing ignition modules and crank sensor so a fair bit of wasted time and money. :roll:
I'm sure that an auto sparky would have picked it up in no time but I'm just glad to have the old Jack back in action. :armsup:

That is the problem with aftermarket immobilisers. If the mechanic did not install it then he would have had no idea what and where the immobiliser cut. Topped off by the computer giving an error code that was probably right but the problem was not what the manual would have said for that code.

Put it down to experience. At least you have it back on the road now.
