You would need the gearbox and transfer with the 3lt as they are different... 3Y uses a G52 gearbox which is half the size/strength of the R151f that comes with 3lt. You would also need to change engine mounts as the blocks are different. Another option would be to use a 2.8lt (designation 3L)as they are the same size engine with different bore/stroke, same gearbox, and arent electronic injection, making install easier.

There are also several different 3lt engines out there
1KZT, 1KZTE - Surf, Prado
5L - N/A Hilux
5l-TE - TD Hilux

All use R151f gearbox..
Cheers,
Dan.

To put a diesel in whether it be 1kzte or 5L, you'll have to change the engine mounts.

With the 1Kzte you'll also need to shorten the rear shaft & maybe lengthen front shaft as the R151F is longer than a G52.

The easiest & cheapest option is a 2.8Litre or 3Litre non-electronic, but you'll need to find the wiring from a diesel 4runner inc. dash, looms, relays etc. (ideally from an 86-88 model, which have a superglow system)

Ive done a 3Y hilux to 2.4D, but I had a complete wreck to use.

I'm now doing a 2.8D to 3TD (1kzte).
