More of Roger & Jonesy at Poolamacca 1. They broke the rope twice trying to winch up the wall. When it broke the car slammed back down and on the second time the passenger lower control arm banana'd under the weight and the tailshaft broke thus allowing the diff to move around all over the place

1st photo is Jeff Redman & Jason Forrsman @ Denian and the second one is Norm & Kym at Denian.

Tried all the others (GQ tray & SWB, GU tray & 100 series) before, now moving to a Rangie!!
Is that a step up, back or across???????
Well what a week.
Once we arrived it wqas time to change the oil as the motor was new and needed changing after 1000km. This was done only for us to discover a wee bit of water in the oil and some oil in the water. We spent most of Friday trying to figure it out, only to conclude the block was porus allowing this to happen, prolly when the motor was switched off. We took the chance, and never realy had a problem with it, but it will need a new block for next time.
We never missed an SS even with all our issues. The mud was our favorite with no problems and we were one of 2 teams to drive the night SS (Birdy being the other).
From here we headed to Denian and the sand. The A Frame tore off from the chassis during the night motorkhana, resulting in a busted tailshaft, so a slow trip back to Silver City 4WD and an all nighter had us fixed and back with 5 mins spare to start the 1st SS of the day. After a countdown and a fast take off we managed to bust a CV and stub axle and had to do gunbarrel in 2WD. This was fixed in time for the next SS and after that we headed over to Poolamacca.
The morning SS was a blast up a creek, followed by a winch wall and the gorge run. This is where our major hiccup occured. The winch rope broke, allowing the Rangie to fall back down the wall bending the trailing arm, causing the tail shaft to bust again. After some "words" we managed to get it up, temporarily repair it, and head back to Silver City 4WD for some more repairs. Another all dayer, a quick trip 170km north including a puncture on the way, and we arrived at Nundooka to do a night waypoint find SS with just minutes to spare. 2 rims were damaged during the SS resulting them needing a hammer fix but we managed to fix it inside the DNF.
Thursday had us driving thru, over & aroumd rocks all without issues which was good and we were back in the swing of things relaxing with the rest of our group. Friday was much the same as Thursday with us tackeling the rocks also with no bother and Friday night was spent close to Aldee Station where Piglet cooked up a meal for D group with everyones food.
Saturday was another good day for us with a relatively trouble free day of competing with us scoring mid range. This is the start of our next mission when just as we were talking about beers with Rog trying to ingage Hi Range, it was discovered Hi range didn't work! Off with the floor & bash plate only to discover it was an internal issue that needed more work so a trailor was organised to get it home, we got a lift back to Broken Hill for a shower then headed back to presentations.
All in all it was a tough week, prolly the toughest of the 5 I've done. The rock walls provide some challenging recoveries, the nav proved to be tricky, the Rangie tried to lay down and die after 7 OBC, but thanks to our determination, Roger's know how and the support from D group we made it!!
Hopefully I'll be back next year!
Jonesy

We not long ago got home, came home the long way via Cameron's corner. What a fantastic week!! It was great to see Norm and Kym bring home the trophy. After going along as spectators you can get a better idea of what the competitors have to go through, throughout the sheer week of hell. Had an excellent time, highly recommend to anyone to go along and spectate next year. Oh yeah and
Go the PATROL!!!!

I'd just like to say THANKS to everyone on the forum for keeping me company during the OBC and keeping me informed when possible ! Being left behind at home thousands of miles away, waiting for the phone calls it was nice to know there were people here in a similar situation !
The UK teams are currently soaking up the rays and getting some well deserved R&R in Sydney and will be back home on Sunday. Can't wait to hear all the tall tales and see all the pics!
Cheers, everyone !
