Can u believe it, the oil pressure dropped after the mud from 55 to 15 and we had no option but to pull out.....absolutely shattered as this is engine no 3 that it's happened to and we weren't even pushing her.
We've had so many opinions since and the main one seems to be that we chose the wrong Commodore engine...VN series 1 had oil pick up probs in it's day....if we'd gone for series 2 maybe things would have been different. Very frustrating cos Piglet had a Comm. engine also but a VR...and it didn't skip a beat, results awesome too @ 11th place. Some one else has said nothing before a VT......
Eugene is busy investigating at present. He's found fine gunk in oil filter and bottom of sump...how it got in he's not sure ..........behind something or other (mere female knows not!)
We're hoping it can be fixed so we can get to Ateco instead of calling it a day for good!......cos we can't afford yet another motor, haven't the place or time to do it either.

Otherwise we were going ok....at least we finished the first nite creek dash Even Stephens this year and the Prologue. Where the first car up at Nundooka ARB winch wall, which was unreal and so much fun......Eugene has modified our low mount to take 55 metres of plasma....and we made it on 54.....a v. long winch. The rest of the field had to hear that all week after us, when it was their turn too...he he!
We didn't cop any handling penalties either, Eugene was the best.

It was also a huge thrill to receive "best driver spirit" prize and be recognized for being the only women "Driver" to compete in the OBC to date x5. A great way to bow out....and so I call on all the girls out there to take my place, you won't regret it and I know you'll have a ball. It remains the best and most challenging 4x4 event there is and it's far easier to drive than it is to navie....so I admire all the girls that have, especially Sue Packer, that is bl--dy hard work.

Hey Lesley I'm sure it has a name.....but as it was late we dashed up there took pix and then left. They are all scultured pieces done by various well known artists, placed on the top of a little hill just outside BH .Broken Hill is very much an arty town. Pro Hart lives there amongst others.

Silvercity4wd....for repairs ...winch motor (us) and Rangie cracked chassis on both sides. We finally got outa there and rejoined our group @ 3.30am...little sleep that nite!
Damn... theres photo evidence!!!! I was just getting additional steel put under the rangie as rock sliders....and to check the diff oil.

It was fantastic spending the days with Eugene and yourself, though that drive after repairs and ariving in camp at 3:30am could have been better.

Hope to catch up with you at the Ateco.

Jason it was so neat being with you and Steph in B group, pity we couldn't stay and see the week out. I know Steph spent most of the time shaking her head in disbelief at what she had to do, but she was unreal and I admire her greatly for tackling everything with great gusto. Sadly some teams opted out of some ss to see the week out, but to those that didn't, and gave everything a go, good on ya, that's what the spirit of the OBC is all about.
You guys had some wrotten luck with so many punctures on the 1st nite nav.....not to mention your really bad cut right hand/fingers Jason, is it all healed nicely now?
By the way when we collected S/C the next day @ Viewmont, we came across an 'odd' not matching! pair of black gloves, mud dried, on the tree....in a funny claw like pose, could they be Steph's? if so we'll bring them to Ateco.
See ya

Yes I believe the gloves were Stephs, she was actually given a nice pair of mechanics gloves from Patrick that she now cherishes. It appears we also left a few and pegs and other items around that tree, I was in too much of a hurray packing up the vehicle as I was being towed after going for a swim in the sheep dip.

As for bad luck.... yes we had some misfortune, but we have already discussed getting ready for next year and we are striving for a better finish result.

Before the OBC Steph had only winched 3 times (at the Vicwinch), so she is still learning, at least we got through the OBC without any winching penalties.

Hi Jason, Steph, Laurie, Celia et al,

Well we got back home and it's taken a week to catch up on emails, bbs and the "real world". Nothing better than getting home to find the tax man has been chasing you for 3 weeks :-)

The UK vehicles were all dropped off at Melbourne and, last we heard they shipped on Friday. The shippers were concerned about oil leaks from all 3 vehicles so they're obviously not used to Land Rovers ! We should get them back at the beginning of July if all goes according to plan.

Our short trip to Sydney saw us making the news when the ferry we were on failed to stop and hit the quay, putting a hole in the ferry and leaving the quay looking very second hand. Rumours that Andy was driving the ferry at the time are unfounded.

A big thanks to all in group B (I include our "leader" in that) for the moral support, particularly at Nundooka day stages where it seemed that we were breaking bits of the motor quicker than we could fix them.

If only we could start the event again I'm sure we'd get the hang of those navigational stages eventually....

The Three Peaks Challenge beckons though Jason - we are currently working on getting a fully kitted TD5 90 for you and Steph to play in.

cheers

Dave

A mate of mine drives the manly ferry, i ride up top with him every day on the way to and from work. The ferry that crashed had a mechanical failure where the clutch which engages the front prop failed, the clutch that disengages the rear prop also failed. The driver said he knew there was a problem about 800 metres from the wharf, and said he couldn't do anything about it. so he had to hit the wharf to avoid hitting the quay.

he said the front flag pole came down and smashed some lady in the head, she required hospitalisation.

scary thing is, i was driving that ferry (temporarily) the night before !

small world.

No, I have not received anything as yet.
Based on previous years I think it generally takes them a couple of months to send out the results.
