I am testing it out on my 80 series 1hdt, will let you know soon what power and torque figures it does and also inlet temps.

I have Powershot 2000 propane-kit on my GQ TD.

Bought it from the US, around 700 USD with freight included.
Everything you need except a tank.

Uses propanegas, I have a 9 kg BBQ-bottle.

LPG is not the same, with LPG you need a waporizer to convert liquid into gas

Works great. Will rev faster, more responsive to trottle input, and less blacksmoke.

It is important to have bigger exhaust though, due to better combustion, more exhaustgas.

well have been running it for a couple of weeks now. seems to be going ok. still primitive but have found out that we can get a similar product to what they use on nitros cars. a pressure sensitive thing on the pedal so it injects more as you accelerate.

All fun and games. cheers for the info

so how have you got that system set up? Is the gas injected in the manifold near the inlet ports or in the inlet pipe close to the air cleaner. I reckon if u treat it like NO2 and use the injectors it could work a treat. I'd like to hear a few more details on your setup. I know you said it was primitave but that should mean that its simple, right? Simple means less to play up

yeh but for $20-30 to refill the bottle surely thats gonna be expensive?? How long a 9kg bottle last ya?? Is it more for like a NITRO effect where u use it when you want the power or is it to increase the km's you get outta a tank. The impressive thing of LPG on a diesel is the considerable extra km's you can get, aswell as the 25% power increase.. :D :D

lpg

Post by MUD80D »

i just put lpg/diesel on my rig which is a toyota landruiser 4.2d dx non turbo by running a hose to the inlet of the motor it is hooked up to a switch and to a adjustable regulator then to a 9kg gas bottle with no jet size i urned the gas pressure up to 6psi on the guage then at 3/4 rev switched it on and it sounded like the engine revs rose about 500 its like my partners turbo 4.2 when it kicks in.
will let you know how it goes on the road tomorrow

at the moment we only have a tiny bottle set up. bought it from bunnings or somewhere like that. we just hooked the pipe up to the air intake just past the air cleaner. Have only filled the little bottle a couple of times. basically just playing around at the moment but thinking about running it a little bit all the time with one bottle and hooking up a second one that is in the cab that we can turn up to increase power to get the old lux up a hill. dont get on here much but will try to post again soon about the outcomes.

so far so good. engine seems to love it

coupla questions bout converting your diesel to gas,

1.do you not get less torque out of gas, thus defeating one of the advantages of having a deisel engine?

2. doesnt gas requires spark plugs? deisel doesnt, where do you put them?

3. wouldnt all the comp ratios in a deisel be wrong for running gas?

i didnt know that you could do this till recently so sorry if the questions seem stupid to the rest of you.

Your not actually converting the diesel to gas as you would a petrol engine, what is being referred to here is gas injection into a diesel engine. It still runs on diesel but the gas is an additive which gives more power as well as better fuel economy by helping the diesel burn close to 100% effeciency.

ah right. as i said ive only ever heard fleeting mention of the subject, i dont know anything about it.

still does it have any negative effects on the engine? like wear an tear wise?
