its easy just replace it they are not very expensive. buy one and a gasket from scotts auto one or an auto shop.

thats the rubber seal that is supposed to be around the part that opens to allow coolant to flow as you can see in the pic below the rubber is only half there

just replaced it today and that is what i found (did a complete flush and replaced cooland as well) so i should be right for a few more months now
