Can any body tell me what the best 24v alternator for a gq patrol is. Want to use a 24 volt winch

If the alternator has the vaccum pump on the back of it (on the TD42 engine from a GQ), then you're pretty limited for options. But if its the later TD42-T from a GU where the vac is remote mounted, then there is a 80 amp, 24 volt jobbie available.
I think that one is actually a replacement truck alt, so you need to space out the mounting hinge on the bottom bracket to keep belts in line.

Its a petrol - so there is no vacume pump - we actually want to leave as is and ad a secondary alternator to it ( I heard this could be done) Can you steer me in the right direction.
Also I heard there is an autoelectrical company up in sunshine coast called Alistair(or similar) if that rings a bell could someone let me know who thay are.

As Tiny said, just set it up similar to an Endless Air A/C pump under the power-steer. Is the power-steer on the drivers side of the engine on a TB42 like the TD42 is??

For this to work you are also going to need a 24V battery set-up; no dice running the winch just off an alternator. At heavy load, even a 24V winch is going to draw at least 300 amps and probably a fair bit more.
Now the biggest 24V alternator I can find quickly is a 140A unit from bosch to suit a scania bus. But even with that you are going to need the battery bank to help out when you're really winching.
Have you thought about how you are going to manage battery charging? I guess if you have two batteries, and run the 12V alternator across one and the 24V alternator across both, that would probably work. Have to mull that over some more.
Not trying to be negative. just raising some issues you might not have thought of.
Anyway, I'd say a bus or truck wrecker is the place to go for an alternator. Just find the one with the biggest current output you can, probably one with lots of electric stuff in the cabin, and figure out how to mount it to your motor.

Since this is goign into a ute. As chimpboy said you need to do something about batteries.
So they all might as well go in the back under the tray somewhere. Get 2 big batteries for the 24v setup, and one tiny batt to run the cars 12V stuff and for starrting.
This way it will transfer abit of that heavy wieght to the rear.

Just for my curiosity, in this competitive context what are you aiming for in a winch?
I realise you want overall power, but if it's line speed vs torque, do you want more line speed or more torque? etc? I'm sorry i'm not that up with competition stuff.
I am just thinking that, for example, just by changing the size of the drum in your winch you could gain maybe 20 percent or more in torque, at some cost to line speed, or vice versa.
There must be a lot of people who know heaps about this; I'm just curious myself.
