HJ60 Air con
I.m looking at buying a '85 HJ60 , it has no air con fitted has anyone here either bought all the bits new or used ? if so what cost and ho wmuch work involved? just wondering whether its worth doing or not
Apparently, according to the guy who is selling it, sahara's (which this is) were all imported and to save the "luxury" tax on importing things they never arrived with air con, it was put in by the dealers when sold, this one was obviously sold without it. The guy who owns it is a mechanic and has said he looked at doing it and was told around $700.00
It is costing us $8500 to buy and I want to make sure that we aren't going to be hit up for some really stupid amount to get it installed
All help would be really really appreciated.
Thanks guys

it might cost $700 for second hand stuiff
for all new aftermarket gear it will be $1500+ installed
for new genuine gear closer to $2.5k id say.
Theres alot of 60 series being wrecked so id be guessing it wouldnt be too hard to find all the parts. It does not look to be a complicated system to fit. You may need new hoses as one of mine was leaking (high pressure line to the condenser) and needed to be replaced.

I dont think theres anything hard about it. installing the evaporator would be the only mildly difficult part, Pretty sure the evaportaor ghoes in behind the dash sop even that shouldnt be too hard.
You will need to get the aircon mob to gas it, probably retrofit the compressor to the new gas, and maybe replace a hose or two.
I have had the condensor and compressor off mine before, and there was nothing difficult about removing them other than the front grille having to come off (was replacing my radiator)
Yemember to keep all the connections covered at all times. And if you can, be the one who removes it from the wrecked 60 so you can see where everything goes. The Gregories manual explains where some of the stuff goes, but it wont show where to route the lines or wires etc.
