Towing with a big lifted truck

Can't say i've seen a high rise 4WD towing a trailer before. What seems to be the go?
Do you get a custom tongue made that drops to the right height? Drag the trailer around dragging its ass, or just not tow a normal trailer?

there are some hitches that can accommodate the raising and lowering of the tow ball, alternatively you can get the hayman reese style hitches that have towballs on large drop arm like hitch.

Apart from that I guess you just jack the trailer up with some springs/leaves and bigger wheels ?

I tow a 8ft by 4ft trailer every other day... i found that the angle at the rear was getting a bit much as the doors kept opening..... and my shite falling out!!

I did a leaf over on the trailer and now it sitt perfect on my rangie with a 4 1/2" lift and 35" tyres

I just bought a second hand trailer (7'x5') with 255/70/15's on it and it was a bit low. So I did a springover and put on a set of 31's I used to run on the Mav'. Whole operation took 3hrs.... and that was with kids running around and bothering me!!

After putting the ball into the hitch the other way, now it tows perfectly!

When I (eventually) replace the MTR's, hopefully there'll still be enough tread on 3 (1x spare) to put them on the trailer......cool 35's on a trailer!!!!!

my cruiser has 2" body lift nfi on suspension lift and it seems to me that the towbar has been lowered 2" to suit this dunno by who but it tows a standard trailer fine towed a trailer with a dingo on it last week and it was fine tho a mates 6x4trailer we put the axle under the springs and its good with a 4x4 but crap with a car

im buying a 5x7 of my boss in 2-3 months and it will polly get lifted and a set of bigger tyres fitted to it

had 35s on a trailer 4 years ago, it used to tow my 38s around in it, behind my shorty, but it was my little brothers trailer, and he liked the skinny standard wheels, but i recently gave him some bald 33s to kick along with.

wouldnt that make the trailers a bitch to load etc...

i know lifting heavy shit into a ute is definantly more of a pain that lifting shit into a trailer :S

ive seen goos necks with about 20cm's of drop on them. Not sure if these are legal tho or just backyard jobbies

I wonder if there'd be any legal implications with doing a spring over on a box trailer, would it need engineering.....
I've got my old wheels/tyres off my 4runner which could lift it but they're 6 stud, so i'd have to change the trailer from 5...

Seen them by hayman reese.. and also seen em on some energex (SEQEB) trucks.

Unless the trailer had to be inspected i.e. car trailer, i can't see any dramas

I got one of those hayman reese adjustable hitch for my falcon ute. my problem was actually for been too low. so I reversed it to raise the tow ball. its got cam adjustment on it too so you can make sure the towball sits level. The hitch is actually design for their weight distributing system.

is it legal in nsw to make your own tow hitch as i got a hayman reese tow bar and my car sits about 8-9" higher than normal so anything i tow gets its ass dragging all over the roads. So i was going to mod one of the hitches to suit my trailer.

guys here in the US are towing with trucks that are lifted 10-12 " (or more)with 35-44" tires.all they use is a drop mount for the ball.pull the pin and you have your rear grounf clearance back.

I regularly tow a triaxle behind my rig.
It has a custom made hitch similar to a HaymenReese and extends down 14" to accomadate the standard height trailers. The rig is SOA and running 35 BFGs when towing.

got a big haymann drop hitch so the front wheels of the tandem touched the road :roll:

Heres a few pics of my old landcruiser with 38 Swampers towing a camper trailer I built with 38 Swampers on it. I could also run 35's with out it looking to bad. I spring over the trailer and lifted the guards so the tyres didnt scrub. I towed it to Cairns, Fraser Island and down to Melbourne. I also towed a car trailer to Moruya, Canberra and Sydney no problems. I got an extended tongue made up. It never showed any signs of breaking. The tongue cost me about $80.

i've towed horse floats, car trailers, my jetski and std box trailes all behind my 80, with a 6inch lift and 35's, never had a problem.

and i have the std gooseneck and tounge that comes with the kaymar, sometimes the ass on the trailer drags when i go over speed bumps or in driveways but thats about it.

My 80's with 7" coil lift & 35s tows my comp cruiser around. Using a haymen reese adjustable hitch. tows fine and can get most trailers to sit nearly perfectly level.

The only thing with the adjustable tow hitch (the one with the two bolts in it) they are only rated to 1500kg with 150kg on the ball and if your towing more them Hayman Reese will not warrant them........

i had a 6" lifted 4runner and used to tow my boat behind on a dropped gooseneck. mind you, the trailer and boat weighed about 350kg all up. my concern with towing something heavier is the levering effect on the tow pack. if i do it again, it'll be braced forward to the crossmember.

this is alright with a single axle trailer, but if you tow, say a car trailer with dual axles the front ones will ride off the ground, putting all the weight on the rear axle only

My 4runner hasn't had a huge lift. I ended up doing a SOA conversion on it which levelled it off just rigth for now..

I believe that ADRs specify maximum tow hitch height as 450mm (from memory) measured at the centre of the tow ball.

just dont do silly shit like i did....had trailer full of gravel for concreteing and had to get it over keby down a very steep embankment and what do you know bang hitch broke.... but didnt come off luckily

new one on her now...ill just tow with commo now.....
