Engineered Hilux in Vic

Post by sierrajim »

Have spoken with a few engineers today regarding engineering my Hilux for the following mods

Rears up front
IFS rears
Bobbed chassis
dual cases
replacement crossmember
50mm body lift
40mm drivetrain lift
IFS steering box
Crossover steering.

Has anyone had anything similar engineered down here? It's much easier to get someone who has signed this stuff off before than start from scratch.

You will not get it engineered as they has rules and guidelines; they break them they loose their engineering licence.
I know because my boss has done pretty much what you are wanting.
Kind Regards,

I personally do not see anything on that list that has not been engineered on someone elses vehicle before in NSW, VIC is not all that different to down here from what i understand.

Rears up front - only moves the diff slightly
IFS rears - again only moves the diff slightly and only requires the moving of shackle mount

Bobbed chassis - no cross member removal, just excess chassis

dual cases - 1 to 1 high range in both, would require placard visible to driver stating "for on road use, high range only"

replacement crossmember - has been done before, may require replacement of factory cross member as well as additional to support second case

50mm body lift - steel or alloy blocks with high tensile bolts

40mm drivetrain lift - off the shelf kit

IFS steering box - has been done before, also have staff qualified to do this mod

Crossover steering - will have drag link tested if i need to

Luxyboy is from QLD and in QLD they are a bit stricter on what u can and cant do..

Just my 2 cents worth...

By the way - by moving the shackle mount for the rears i take it you are using the standard length shackle? What sort of flex do u get from this rather than an extended shackle?

i am yet to find out if i can have extended shackles engineered down here. If i can that will be done at the same time as the springs.

the only hurdle i have at the moment is getting someone to sign off a body lift.

I guess i'll go for a drive and see cheezy.
