Re: hilux 253, 308 cooling
another v8 hilux that overheats, welcome 2 the club!! just kiddinkegz wrote:hey what are you guys with 253 or 308 hilux's getting them cool with
But thats what most people would say.between myself and family we have had V8 lux's for over 35years and it is only through trial and error that this problem is over come.It is a combo of diffs, fans and radiators.
The best radiator is a 3 row fine with standard tanks
The fan is your choise, from the largest multi blade to twin falcon thermos.
I run a 350chev non clutch fan with a 16" davis craig thermo in front(soon to be twin falcon thermos,NOT DAVIS CRAIG TWINS as these r crap)
The diffs depend on your uses and the tyres you have,I run 4.55 with 35"bfg's but have run 4.1 with 33".
253 v8 tends to run hotter then 308,Ive had both!!
The temp you should expect under normal conditions is 80-90 and 90-95
on the beach.hope this helps you out
re cooling
hey thanks for that i am going to run twin 10" theros as they wit without any modifications and i cannot fit a fan as i only have an inch or less between the waterpump pulley and the radiator. speaking of which my radiator is a shagged diesel hilux radiator and i would be interested in whrere, how much and what exact radiator is my best option btw it is a hot 308 (big cam and valves)
Bear in mind that twin 10" will only do similar or less volume than a 16" of the same design. that said you can find 10" that do more volume than 12" of different design. you will also find that a dedicated fan (ie pusher rather than pusher/puller) will be more efficient. check out the Jayair website its quite helpful.
81 swb hilux, rust, oil leaks, holden v6 and auto, 33's.
heating
My 10'' push 1200-1350cfm each.Get em from Autobarn brand is ICE.
Lockers or Knockers ,both will make for fun.

I run a 4 core Desert Cooler radiator with a solid VK commodore fan and have wired a switch to the the air con thermo fan to over ride in case it gets hot but have not had to do this yet.
Running a 308 with a TQ20 grind cam, gas heads and cast exhaust manifolds
and its sweet as

have also been researchin this for my truck that i'm about to start building. For now it will remain 22R until i decide on what to run later on.
Have looked at the Marks 4 core alloy radiator. About $400
They also say that a modified cruiser radiator with slightly modded radiator support will work.
I'm getting a radiator out of a 73 series cruiser diesel to see if that will fit. It does not look that much bigger than the Lux one on Outside measurements but seems to be a factory 4 core??
Well I'm guessing that they didn't think everyone would carry on like a big bunch of sooky girls over it like they have........
If you are running the Desert Cooler radiator and your having drama's then I'd be checking the condition of the water pump, thermostat (I run an 82o thermo) & fan setup (are you running a solid or clutch set up ?).
I run a VK solid fan in mine with the standard Diesel cowling fitted around it and it works a treat.
Maybe even get the radiator checked out.
