cruiser springs in patrols
hey all, have read a few post on here in the past about using cruiser springs and shocks in patrols as they are longer and you can gain more lift, has any one actually done this and know 100% for sure that if you bought say 3" cruiser springs and shocks that they would go straight in a patrol with no hassles and give you an inch or two extra hieght??????
reason i ask is my new patrol is on its way from nsw and has a 2" ome lift and i'd like about 4" and im trying to find the cheapest way of doing it as after buying the car the funds are very shy
if i got 2" ome cruiser gear would i end up with a 4" lift???
i figure a 2" ome cruiser lift has got to be cheaper than say a 4" snake kit or big ball etc etc to suit patrols,

The reason you buy a "kit" as opposed to just springs and shocks is beacuse at 4" of lift, you will need more than just the basics - you will need castor correction, brake line extension, sway bar extension, etc, etc,
Whether you lift it with Nissan gear or Toyota gear, you are still lifting it. - 4" is 4", regardless of what you put it. It is the size of the lift you need to worry about, not the gear that goes in. 2" lift will only require the basics - spring and shocks - whereas a 4" lift will require a lot more work and gear.
My advice, stick to what is made for your truck. A "cheaper option" will probaly cost you more in the long run.

its not a matter of being a tight ass, its not getting ripped for some thing thats a bit bigger than standard cause " every things special" or thats what i get told, i think being in tassie they think your dumb!!!
ive already got adj panhards from a previous car, brake lines i can get made through a mate at a brake shop(has made me braided one for all my other cars) so thats no worries and ive got 5.5 plates and 7 plates cause ive already made them up off of ones my mates have bought, its only the springs and shocks i need so if i can cheat the system and get it for a better price i'd love to cause as soon as you jump from 2"to 4"the price goes up, im a mechanic so fitting and setting up is the easy bit so back to the question,
does any one actually know whether or not they do fit?

why don't you buy loose springs in the height you need. should be under $200 a pair for kings. procomp all cost the same reguardless of length. ome is not that cheap i think a mate paid over $200 a pair for ome springs.

Cool, thats what i wanted to know, hoonz do you happen to know whats different between cruiser rears and patrol rears??
bru21: ill prob end up doing that its just a matter of finding the right stuff for the right price and not jumping in to the first thing cause like i said before when you talk to most people they think they can tell you any thing or charge any thing cause your all the way down in tassie so for me research is my friend

talk to brian from superior engineering (fatassgq) he will help you out. there is more than just height too you want to get spring rates that will work too.

thanks all, haven't priced the ome stuff yet i was just thinking it may have been cheaper, ive used 7" kings in my others and in my mates and think they are great, had no issues and i can get em cheap, i was just trying to look at different ways of doing it and different brands and mainly just to broaden my choices of whats available

OME 80 springs and shocks do fit and do give about 40mm over OME GQ in the front. The 80 springs are a tighter coil and bind slightly on the spring locating circle on the GQ diff, causing spring noise on articulation and when the vehicle is lifted on a 2 post hoist.
You can then cut the spring pads off the back diff and space them up to level the vehicle.If raising the rear shock lower mounts be aware that they are not symetrical.
