Wah this is going to be a little awesome if I can pull it off.
How do I fit 35"er tyres onto my LJ70. My LJ70 has coil springs all around....no leaf springs. There's presently no lifts of any kind.
I can get hold of a 1KZ engine from a mate, can this be mounted directly into my 2L engine bay and still use the G52F 5 speeder gearbox?
Anything else to consider?

where are you? all local (australian) LJ70's are turbos and have R151F gearbox. a turbo 1KZ will shred a G52. I believe (however I may be mistaken) that a 1KZ will bolt in wherever a 2L-T was.
35" tyres will fit on a LJ70 with 2" spring lift + 2" body lift, or 4" spring lift sing 80 series springs. the tyres will rub on the inside of the rear tubs on full articulation.

To my knowledge and consulting Max Elerry's Factory Workshop Manual, all manual L series were fitted with 4 or 5 speed G52F gearbox. Mines not the one you quoted. Also my engine is a non turbo 2L, original or not I have no idea.
Why would the 1KZ sheer the gearbox?
Would a 3L or 5L engine be more suited...and turboed?
I don't wish to do any body lift, so how would I cure the rubbing of the tyres? Offset?

what year is it? is it a "grey" import? I was under the (possibly mistaken?) impression that all LJ70 originally sold in Australia were turbo. the non turbos do indeed have a G52 gearbox - it is not a real strong gearbox, especially the earlier ones (pre 1988ish). the weaknesses in the G52 include the small size of all gears, only 2 bearings supporting main and counter shafts, and a 5th gear which chews its way through the counter shaft. it is improved on later models but not great. the R150/151F gearbox is a vast improvement, and if you can, get your motor complete with the gearbox. Any increase in power/torque including a 1KZ-T, or 3L or 5L with turbo, will dramatically shorten the life of your G52.gogo wrote:Just outside Kalgoolie.

as for fitting the tyres, a 4" suspension lift will make them fit ok. you will need to correct the castor angle on the front axle or it will steer poorly.

If it's true then I guess it will be much easier to fit 1KZ-T instead of 13B-T which I was dreaming about
My understanding is that all A34* Autos are strong enough, that is what is behind the 1UZ Quad Cam and 2UZ from factory...

How can it be wrong? I have checked 2 other workshop manuals and all bundy's upto 1989 were fitted with G52F gearboxes on a 2LT engine. I have worked more than half a dozen turbo bunderas, and they all had R151F - including a 1985, and it definitely had an R151F. I owned a 1989 turbo bundera and it definitely has an R151F.
if you've got a photo of the build plate of a factory turbo bundera with a factory fitted G52, I'd be very interested to see it.

your NON turbo may well have a G52 - no argument there. my only surprise was that non turbo LJ70's were originally sold in the Australian market.

The beast only came with 30's from the 2nd hand dealer.
So to add my queries to the mix, I've got the following issues:
Will going to say, 31s or 32s require re-gearing for normal use? I'm assuming that take off will be marginally affected, due to the current lag in reaching Warp Speed as it is.
I've heard that 32s does not require lift. T or F?
Will I be able to get over 100 clicks/hr comfortably with bigger rubber given the larger radius? Currently, top speed of 100 is at around 3000+RPM and it ain't happy going much faster than 110 when the Warp Overlead Alarm starts to sound.

32x11.5's will fit with no lift. I'm running MTR's on mine and theres no rubbing in any situation. rears come very close to the inside of the guard on full flex, probably only a couple of mm spare, so any wider and scrubbage...
33x10.5's would be ok too i imagine. they might hit where the front mudflap joins on at full flex though.
no regearing is required, but it is slow. 100 on flat road is ok. 110 is pushing things. for hills its a bit of a do your best type of thing but you probably know that already.
