who has 33" tyres on a vitara?
who has 33" tyres on a vitara?
just wondering how many vitaras out there have tyres bigger than 31". i dont mind comp trucks and all, but i'm more interested in DD vits.
everyone seems to say 30"s are the limit, and yes, i do agree, but i'd like to know how other hold up with 33" rubber.
i thought sawzall had a vit project going? not sure if its still on or not. anyone got any pics of local vits on bigger rubber?
i also know and read heaps about the driveline stresses of going bigger than 31"s, and i know, cos i can break CVs at will with my set up now.
thanks
Steve

gonzo had 33's, but his wasn't a DD. i ran 32's, but only offroadSiKiD_01 wrote:just wondering how many vitaras out there have tyres bigger than 31". i dont mind comp trucks and all, but i'm more interested in DD vits.

sawzall sold his vit to sam (overkill), which was the vit that competed at tufftruck on 35in claws, but it has 60 series diffs and a sierra transfer with gears as well, but i THINK sam MAY daily drive it, i'm sure someone down there knows for sure.
sams would be the biggest vit in aus at the moment, with his new 36x13.5 iroks
I had some well worn BFG MT 33x9.5's on mine when I was running a 2" bodylift and OME suspension with 20mm coil spacers. I did a little gentle tapping and grinding (not much) and they were OK but I had rubbing on the chassis rails at full lock but I was running them on the stock 5.5"rims with positive offset so no flares were needed.

yeah, the 33 9.50 are ok on stock rims, but not so good off set wise.
gonzo had this size too i think, and he cut a lot out of his guards.
i was thinking about a 33"x12.50"x15".

I wouldn't go a 33 x 12.50 try the 33 x 10.50 BFG MT. I prefer a tall skinny tyre in this size range as it gives a longer footprint compared to the very square footprint of a 33 x 12.50. Seems to work better in mud as it can cut down without aqua planning which the squarer one does.
Also easier to fit and to steer with

like this one that once was a daily driver? EDIT: It won't let me attach the file???
With almost no lift.

Minor trimming of body panels required

Yeh im pretty positive Sam duz drive the vit daily let alone 2 hours up the freeway when ever he comes up here (NEWY) for some wheelin ...and thats with the IROK"S ...the aid of a steering stabiliser and it apparently drives with little to no vibs from the tyres , driveline is fine
IM hoping to squeeze my 37"s under my VIT um once finished mmmmm I betta start I guess ............ but may upgrade to a TSL (36)mmm maybe , IF I WIN LOTTO
Guess I also betta get some pics of the beasty its at the moment being the family chariot .........Bloody misses has fallen in larv wif the thing .......she's now talkin bout gettin another for the family hack once i CUT this UP

EDIT will be more than likely daily driven on 35"s (315/75/16"s) gotta get to work sumhow

I do, and it's my DD on the street they are just as fast as my old 235's with the stock gearing but they were rethreads and real heavy I can ride on with all the traffic great, hill's and Hway driving (110 km/h) are not as good as they were but as there are not many hills over here I've got no prob with that
there was pretty much cutting involved and they still rub on the frame (and the body too) but that'll be fixed as soon as I have time.
Here's a pic, you've seen it but that don't matter

I run the 36/13.5/15 iroks on mine and it is my daily driver.I can drive it up and down the freeway no worries. Had a few issues with getting the 36's balanced but apart from that no drama's at all. I have driven it to Bathurst which is a good 3 hour drive at 90-110kmh .

How do the IROX go on the street. Will they wear out quick driven that much on the black top?OVERKILL ENGINEERING wrote:I run the 36/13.5/15 iroks on mine and it is my daily driver.I can drive it up and down the freeway no worries. I had 33/13.5/15 claws and was a dd, i thought it was ok on road but off
Gearing (5.12/4spdauto) was very average to say the least but it still lugged itself everywhere. Bit sketchy on long steep hills up and down though.
CV's busted more than regularly and would not let you use that size tyre as best you could on obstacles
If i was still using mine with ifs i would have gone back to 31's
