clutch problems mq - new question

Hey

I've just notice that fluid is leaking at my feet in the cabin,

It is coming from the clutch. Where a rod comes off the clutch pedal and into a cylinder. (see photo)

Whats going on? Is it easy to fix and will it be expensive?

looks like you need a master cylinder for your clutch a new one is the easy way to go, but sometimes they can be reconditioned with a seal kit this can be cheaper but not always the best way to go because the bore might be worn.

yep definatly a leak in the back of your clutch mater cylender.

very easy to replace. and not very expensive.

go down to your local Repco and buy a new clutch master cylender.
they are about $60 new from memory....

dont bother with kits, for the price of a new one u better off going that way.

Kit is like $8, it's worth trying if you can be arsed doing it.

The whole master cylinder is about $35 or so brand new, so if $35 isn't much to you just replace the whole thing.

It seriously takes about 30 seconds to strip them completely to bits, for $8 its worth trying.

Yep seen to many replace one side of the system and with a couple of weeks having to replace the other bit ....

Remember every time you push in the clutch 2 things are working.... the master and the slave..... they wear at about the same rate so if you replace one then the other comes under a greater pressure than it had been operating at, you can figure the rest out !

My 2 cents. Same problem on my MQ. I went the kit 2 years ago and have not had a problem since. For 8 bucks it's well worth a try.

I bought a replacement one for $50 bucks and went to install it and i can't undo the nut under the clutch master cylinder that is part of the piping!!!

its totally striped, so now i have to go to pirtek and see if they can undo it and make me another one.

Thanks for the tip, i will replace the slave cylinder while im at it, is it just as easy to do? Bolt on and bolt off? it doesnt seem that easy to get to though.

Yeah one of my MQ's had the same problem --> someone had stripped it previously.

I just used a lot of inox and vice grips.

Worked fine, and I just didn't do it up stupidly tight.

It will be there for 10 years so meh it won't matter anytime soon.

put a bit of heat into it and then let it cool down again, its a flared joint. the cooling should loosen enough to be able to loosen it with the vice grips. bet remember, if ya shear the tube off, you cant drive to pirtek.........

Well i gave up on trying to undo the bolts.

First thing this morning i took the car to enzed and they were awesome.

The guy their pulled the pipe off made a new one and put it back on and bled my clutch. All for $44. I couldn't recommend them high enough.

Enzed on Nudgee Rd near the airport.

So to do the slave cylinder do i need to drop the box?

Should be able to reach it either thru the engine bay or if you jack it up high enough from underneath.

Would help if you had body lift I'd say.

edit: You shouldn't need to drop the gearbox to do the slave. If you do something is very wrong.

u will easily get it from from the engine bay, and its only 2 bolts and the pipe, and guess wat u will have to re bleed it too

should have gotten em to do it while they were at it, wouldnt have cost much more !
