HJ60 noise

Post by joel HJ60 »

Hey guys, recently replaced my c.v/axle in the front passenger side in my truck. Did it about a week ago. Now while driving I can hear a deep low noise from that area. Its like a deep bassy noise and sounds like it spinning with the tyre. its not constant and spins for a bit stops then spins a bot more. Before I rip everything out again any ideas? Thanks joel

Yeah, i understand what you mean. I don't think you can stuff that up.

Are the wheel bearings tight? Of have they loosened themselves off? Jack the front wheel up and give it a shake.

righto shes jacked up and the wheels bearings were replaced in january as i said but there is a tad of movement.... How tight should it be, should it move at all?

edit: i just jacked up the other side and its tight. so would that cause the problem and how would you go about fixing it?

They should be tight enough that you don't feel any movement in the wheel in the vertical plane. Its a little hard to explain.

Tighten the bearing nut until you feel it start to make the bearing a little harder to turn, then back it off a fraction. That may give you noise if the bearing is loose. In order to tighten the bearing, you must remove the hubs anyway, so you can check if anything is misaligned.

So a good bet would be to take everything off and do it again, taking more care.

Just make sure the sir clip on the axle behind the hub is not touching in anything.
I know when I put new hubs on my surf the clip that holds the outer stub axle was toughing and making a noise like that and it is possible to stuff up the way you put your hubs back together. They can be in the lock position and the outer part can be in free. I have done this but you will be able to tell because, the spring inside the hub will be out and not locked in, as it should be if you understand what I mean. also it would have been harder than it should have been to put back together i.e. it should of just all slid together with out force
Cheers
