WA Manjimup Motomadness *with pics from the day*

Post by ausyota »

Its probably a bit soon to post this up but I will anyway.
I am a member on the committee for organising the Manjimup Motomadness car/bike show featuring Cars, Rods, Harleys, Trucks, Freestyle motox jumps and this year (thanks to me :) ) we will be featuring a short 4wd track to play on.

Its not a comp or anything its just a 4WD demonstration on a very short obsticle course.
I am trying to get as many 4wds down as possible.
The plans are to have some ruts, some logs, some rocks and a slippery mud hole. Also possibly an RTI suspension travel ramp.

Its on the same weekend as the Manjimup 15000 motoX event. Motomadness show is on the saturday and the 15000 is on the sunday.
So could be a good weekend away down in the lovely southwest :) .
Spread the word and let me know if you or people you know want to come.
The more fully sick hardcore 4wds the better!

http://www.motomadness.com.au/

I will post up some pics later of the course when we start building it.

There is a good free camping ground (toilets but no other facilities) a few Ks out of town (far enough away to not disturb anyone) we could have a good camp and piss up!

Also if enough people are keen we could work out a 4wd trip for the Monday (or sunday if people dont want to go to the 15000).

I am in the process of organising a farm paddock that we can all camp in on the saturday night and have a bonfire!
Should be a good way to ward of the cold of a Manjimup winters night :)

I may have found a good option for a saturday night bonfire
My old man owns a big industrial area block at the bottom of a wrecking yard.
He has pretty much given us the OK and has said he will start collecting stuff to burn ( he works as a contractor and can get lots of timber and stuff).

Also he has said (all be it reluctantly) that we can build a bit of a 4wd course on the block *woohoo* so we can have 2 x 4wd courses, a day public one and a night private one :)
It even has a concrete burnout pad  .

The only downside is that its not a very nice place to camp, but a few bourbons and a bonfire and who really cares!
Paul.

PS if anyone want to bring along fireworks its all good :)

A couple of rules need to be stated for the 4WD display course.

1. At least one good tow point front and rear.

2. Bring your own snatch strap (we dont want to bugger ours)

3. Low range only

4. On the day you will need to sign a waiver form saying if you fawk up its your own problem.

June 4th is the sat of the show.
Dont stress about the ramp Duncan Im sure we will be able to work something out closer to the date.
I have some mates from Perth coming down that can probably chuck it on a trailer.

As for accomodation I think I may be able to convince my old man to let everyone camp out in his shed (dont worry its a BIG shed) after the Bonfire.
Has toilets and somewhere under cover to sleep. Can crank up the gas patio heaters. So all you will need is a swag.

I will have to see if the bloke who runs the business next door will let everyone use his shower! (may have to buy him a carton and make sure they get cleaned after)

The more the merrier mate!!!
Bring it down for sure.
The course will be laid out so there is something to challenge everyone (including the buggys like Duncans  ).
The left hand side of the track will not be fenced so if an obsticle is too tough and needs to be bypassed you can simply drive around it.

Latest news update. The committee have decided to make it a $5 charge to use the course but for your 5 bucks you can use it as many times as you like all day, you will be assigned a number and as soon as everyone thats wants to have a go has been through you can go again.

No pics yet. Next week or so I will be going up to fence the area off so we can start constuction when we are ready.

BTT
No pics yet but next week should have some.

We are not going to worry about the travel ramp as its just too hard to A get down here and B set up so cars can drive in and out without running over people :)

Sat night Bonfire and BBQ is a definate goer.
Have confirmed a place to have it and a shed for people to roll out swags.
Not sure what people are doing Sunday. The options are either go to the Manjimup 15000 MotoX race or go for a drive somewhere.

Here is a map of how to get to the event after you come into town.

A couple of pics of course construction and testing :)

Carnage for the day was a bent hilux transfer crossmember, bent sidestep, the bobcat rolled two tyre beads and a bit of panel damage to a lux wellbody.

The wifes zook managed to get away without any real damage apart from a bit of a bend in the tow bar and the radiator overflow bottle bouncing its way out of the engine bay  .

Still have more course building and finishing off to do during the week and the pics dont do the course justice.

Im thinking my first thought of having a course that would chalenge everyone (including buggys) may have been a bit off.
We have had to build the track so that near standard vehicles will make most of the obsticals. 90% of the vehicles driving it will be stock or mildly modified and we dont want them to look at the track and not want to have a go. We will have a couple of bigger obsicals to chalenge the more modified trucks if they choose to try that line.
Still have to dig the main mud hole and line the bottom with clay and extend the rock section.

It should be a fun day!
We put the finishing touches on the track yesterday.
It now has a VERY slippery mud hole
We have an excavator on site as the recovery vehicle (ala Tuff Truck challenge) Who has said if anyone complains that its too easy he will use it do dig some BIG holes and trenches for them!

Now all we need is the weather to be kind to us and lots of parcipants.
See you guys there look for the big fat bastard wearing a fluro yellow/green shirt.

Well the event went well despite not many Perth guys showing up  .
Everyone had fun and the 4wds pulled the biggest crowds during the day.

There was a bit of carnage for the day  .
Hilux clutch
Hilux CVs x2
Hilux kingpin bearing

Patrol lower rear suspension arms x2
