Hey all.
A mate has a troopy in need of a new body. What are the options??
Is there a imported that brings in the 4dr or 2dr trropy bodies online??

you can get a LJ or KZJ 78 which is almost troopy length, has 4 doors (plus the barn door rear), a 2L-T or 1KZ-T(E) motor, and hilux sized gearbox, diffs and axles, with landcruiser sized CV's and transfer case, and 4 wheel coil suspension. They are imported in small numbers. I doubt that the body off one of them would be available at any price. the full sized 75/78 troopies were not sold in the japanese dmoestic market so if you're going to find a body, it will be here or in Africa.chopper wrote:4dr Troopies???

What you discribed looked like a 4 door Bundy and they have them in Malaysia as ive seen them on some Rain Forest Challenge video's . There was a wrecker in melb (about 10 years ago) that imported one, it was a 4 door troopy, full electric's, E-locker's, E-Free wheel hubs, leaf springs, 1HZ diesel, 24v electrics and full GXL style trim/seats. He wrecked it out as i got some of the trick stuff and fitted it to my V8 75 Cruiser i was bulding up at the time. I have seen the 4dr ones like the aussie ones but an extra door that looks factory.
Mainly chasing a good body that needs next to no work done to it. He has all new interior and windows for it already.

The 77 series come in two styles, the heavy duty version, powered by the 1HZ and the 1PZ, and the light duty one (aka the Prado), powered by the 2.4L petrol, the 2.4l TD, and later the 3.0l TD. All 77's have the same wheelbase, 2730 mm, which is shorter than the troopy at 2980 mm. Fitting a 77 body to a troopy frame would not be a simple task.
In Japan, the Prado version gets a 2LTE or the 1KZTE engine to comply with their emission rules which is why Toyota gives these Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) version its special designation, the 78 series. The rest of the world got the non electronic versions of the engines, the 2LT and the 1KZT, therefore they're still called the 77 series. These have coil suspension front and rear.
The heavy duty version got the 1PZ and the 1HZ but these versions were not exported out of Japan by Toyota though many were by private parties. These have leaf suspension until 2000 when they got coils up front when the entire 7x series got coil.

The 75/78s that you see getting around with an extra door (and it's usually only one, on the passenger side,) are not factory (as much as some of the jobs I have seen certainly look good enough to be).

There is the Original, Prado Troopy that was import only, and are smaller than an Aussie Troopy...
But I have seen 4 Door Full Size, Aussie Troopys running around, nice custom jobs from somewhere I reckon...
Maybe try ringing Telecom, and or Queensland Rail and try to speak to fleet, or some other companies that use them, as I'm sure it was badged as a company vehicle of that type...

The body style is either the LJ77/78, RJ77 or the KZJ77. The grille arrangement incorporating the turn signals indicate it is the light duty version with the Bundera running gear. Compare the grille to the pic of the heavy duty line BENI81 posted.
