I think it's probably been done to death. There are pros and cons of either system. diesel is good for outright range, pulling power and economy, will run under water (ie do not rely on electrics), are not disturbed by angles, and properly maintaned will last almost forever. Petrol engines are cheaper, make more power, and are cheaper per km for fuel than diesels when on LPG. LPG conversions are expensive though, and without proper lubrication tend to wear the motor faster than running on petrol. in the end it comes down to personal preference. I like diesels. I like the sound, I like the range, I like the ease of extracting more power by simply bolting on a turbo and winding up the boost. I like the smell of diesel exhaust. I love that in any weather it takes half a second to start. I like that it can crawl along at idle in low 1st and climb just about anything without riding the clutch or revving the daylights out of it. Sometimes I don't like petrol powered 4bys flying past me when accellerating, but I usually get back by cruising up hills on the highway in top gear while they have to stir the pot and rev like crazy to keep up.

Also if you are using the lux for touring there are some places that won't let you in unless it is a diesel. I am going to a couple of these places next year and the excate wording of the permit is only diesel or avgas fuel vehicals are permitted. I was told this is so they don't have to transport different fuels into the remote communitys. Unofficaly I was told there is also a problem with some locals spiking the petrol fuel tanks so they could sniff the contents.
