Steering feels tight

Post by jcianci »

Hey all,

My steering feels tight at certain directions.
Like it will be free steering straight, then when i turn it a little it feels real tight.
Whats going on? I checked the steering damper its fine. Is it the steering gear?

look on top of the box and you'll see a threaded bolt with a slot in it and a nut to lock it loosen the nut and turn the threaded bolt anti clockwise to loosen and vice versa to tighten , always make sure you turn lock to lock when playing with the adjustment to make sure it doesn't bind.

pop the rod end off the pitman arm,
jack both front wheels off the ground,
turn the steering wheel, is there any binding?
turn wheels buy hand (steer not rotate) is there any binding?

you are looking for
a shot steering box,
a broken CV,
stuffed swivel housing bearings,
damaged damper (dosn't need to be much)
a bent something that it rubbing on something else

Good luck and happy hunting

ive got the same problem, it is intermittent on mine, will be fine for a week and then it will go stiff for a day

my mech looked at it briefly and said it was either the steering box or the steeering wheel to box pole thingy that was at fault

bloody infuriating
nothing better then a staghound stretching it out in full flight

If a Mechanic said it was the "steering wheel to box pole thingy" I'd be looking for a new mechanic.
