Went down to the comp site with a few guys to test some of the terrain at Bathurst.
The terrain is absolutely awesome. The best yet that we have tried to hold a competition on. The pictures are good but it really doesent do justice to what these rigs are driving.
Its going to be bloody good!!!

We are talking 8 ft straight down. I have never seen another vitara like this one and he drove this rig 4 hours from Sydney to get it here and he drove it back again. Incredible machine.
Check the boys out on the strap.

Another big rock. Im sure there is a few cool lines over this one but Im not absolutely sure - so many fawkin rocks. I think there was one climb on this one that Mick Christie (Cristie Creation) crawled up with both front wheels just of the ground. Only thing with this one is that its just at the top of the 5m rock wall that I posted above so if they go over on this one its a long way down - so we might make a compulsory safety on this one.

is obstacle, then drive, obstacle, then drive or is it one big f ing nightmare set in stone ?
The whole terminology (from the US) in this game is a little bit different to what we are used to. We normally tend to think of an obstacle as a ledge or a pile of rocks etc but in WE Rock (as in any other rockcrawling comp in the US) the obstacle forms the short course that we would normally call an SS ( - special stage as called in winch challenge terms or tuff truck terms). So in rockcrawling an obstacle is the same as an SS which is a very short course.
So here is how it works:
The competition is a short course trials type of event and scored much like a game of golf. The competition over which the teams compete is laid out as a series of obstacles. Each obstacle is a short course defined by a series of gates through which the vehicle must navigate. Obstacles tend to be a very short - normally comprising of only 4 to 8 gates over a distance of only 50 meters or so. Each obstacle usually comprises one or two very hard sections. At this event there are 8 obstacles for each team to complete, four obstacles to be completed each day. The team with the lowest score is named the winner. The teams are scored with penalty and bonus points.
So basically each competitor completes an obstacle and then has a rest and then completes another one etc untill they do the 4 each day.
It looks like we will split the competitors into 2 groups so that we can run 2 obstacles at the same time to get through quicker.
