Dobinson part #?

Post by KIWI »

Can anyone give a part number for 3" Dobinson coils?
Also, linear, or progressive?
Soft or firm?
Have 2" TD coils/shocks, but want something softer, will I get away with keeping the Foam Cells with the 3" lift?

From the experiences we have had I don't think you will get away with the shocks.

The tuff dogs have internal and external bumpstops but from what I have seen the tough dog springs are usually a bit smaller than the dobinsons.

To explain better 2" dobinsons could well end up 3" where as 3" tough dogs are more likely to be 2".

If that makes sense dobinsons seem to be the biggest coil around.

We have had a bit of trouble getting the correct length tough dog shocks to suit dobinson coils.

End of the day it is just my oppinion but I don't think the shocks will be long enough.

Cheers

Bugger, thats what I thought, was hoping I wouldnt need new shocks.

Can anyone give a part number for TD shocks, or EFS that would suit a 3" lift?

For your original question:

Front Coils:
2-3" lift, H/Duty, 440/425mm free height, 276lb/inch spring rate. Part # is C96-201.
3" lift, H/Duty, 465/450mm free height, 276lb/inch spring rate. Part # is C93-129.

Rear Coils:
2-3" lift, XH/Duty, 470/460mm free height, 340lb/inch spring rate. Part # is C45-105.
3" lift, XH/Duty, 515/500mm free height, 295lb/inch spring. Part # is 96-076.

Talk to Kris Taunt at Autolign in Auckland about it, they are the Dobinson distributers in NZ. Email: krist@autolign.co.nz

Thanks for the help so far, but need a little more ifo.
Have got hold of local shop who sells the Dobinsons, but all but one of the above numbers (C45-105) do not exist according to Dobinsons.

The NZ importer has been told that the 2" lift coils for the LWB GQ are a 3" lift for the SWB, is this right?
My current 2" Tough Dog lift is too stiff, so thought that if I'm changing the coils, I would do the lot and go for a 3" while I'm at it (but not 4") , but I want to make sure the info I'm getting is correct.

At this stage I will run the C45-105 in the rear, but what is the matching front?

Dave,
Those numbers above are correct, but they are "specials". That is, Autolign / BNT (the NZ distributers) don't stock them, but they are available from Dobinsons on special order. Takes about 6 weeks to make thm and ship them over. Mine are coming with another order, so should be here soon.

I got Jason Locke at Ateco to do the specs for the coils I wanted, then Jim at Dobinsons confirmed it, but then had to go thru Kris Taunt at Autolign to actually purchase them. Sounds complicated, but they did all the work :-) I think that would be easiest for you too??

Flick me your fax number, and I'll send you the spec sheet for their entire coil listing on Monday.

Mitch,
thanks for the offer, but I'm in a bit of a rush to get the new coils (already sold the old ones  )
Will go for what Dobinson have recommended, and see how they are.
If they do give a 3" lift I will buy some pro comp shocks to suit from 4WD STUFF when I head over to oz in a few weeks.
If they dont give a 3" lift I will just have to buy coils too....

Cheers,
Dave
