V8 engine into Land Cruiser

Post by buger »

A friend have a Land Cruiser BJ 40 with unimog axles, and is planing to replace the curent engine (3.5 turbo) with a Grand Cheroke 5.2 V8.
He has a BJ 71 tranny and would like to know if exsist some adapter for this combination?

I dont know much about the Cherokee motor, but there is an overwhelming amount of adapters and info regarding the 350 chev swap.
So much easier to follow a trail that others have blazed before you and get a better result. :)

There is a Jeep 5 speed gearbox called the AX15 that is almost identical to the R151 gearbox used in the Bundy. If a Bundy output shaft is fitted, it may well suit the BJ71 transfer.

The question is whether there are clutch housings to mate the AX15 to the 5.2L engine. The AX15 is normally found behind their 4.0L six petrol motors. I'd suggest asking in the Jeep forum.
