i am going to go the gq diff conversion on my 1981 rangie. i have done a heap of research on here as to wat need to be done but i have a few questions if anyone could help. are there any issues with the rear diff being centred ie vibrations, or breaking unis? also with the steering is it basicall half the rangie gear mated to half gq gear? (steering arms etc) i know i will lose some diff clearance but as i intend to run some decent tyres i am not going to worry to much about it. oh and also do i need any specific gearing or are gq ones all the same? i dont know much about gq diffs..

No probs with rear diff off centre, you will have to run your unis out of phase a spline or 2 (mines is one spline out of pahse). The uni's won't break
steering and panhard rods need to be made. with RR parts one end and nissan parts the other end

HSV rangie said, 4.3 or 4.6 (4.6 isn't very easy to get, 4.3 is abit more common) I have 4.3's in my RR with 35's and the gearing is perfect, you could run 37's and wouldn't be too bad to drive on.
you will love it after the conversion is done.....shave the diffs for clearance

Had Maxi 4.1 diff ratios, broke centres doing easy stuff lightly. got ARB locker and broke a 24 spline disco axle, so thought stuff it get nissans and get lower gear ratios and more width and more strength Everywhere
The CV war will continue, but any standard CV no matter what the brand will break, strong ones must be sorced when you fit a locker, but you treat it nice you will be right, i don't have a locker and have never broken a CV in the nissan's
