Cable Dampner

Post by Mick G »

Where is the best place to position the cable dampner on the cable when winching?? Just bought one and it got me thinking about where exactly I would position it in a recovery - middle near car or anchor point. Might not make any difference at all, but i'm sure some people will have considered this and applied some kind of logic.

Appreciate anyone's thoughts.

Any given point in the middle third of the cable length in tension.

CCDA regs state it must start in the centre third when winching comences and only needs to be moved when it touches the fairlead. I believe the NZ comps stste it must be attached at the hook end and stay there, but the only allow rope to be used in comps. I'd suggest you keep it near the middle when winching and you wont go wring.
