Whirring HJ60 Power Steering?

Post by vanzbrown »

Hi all...

Just a question to you guys. Everynow and then upon start up (i think mainly colder mornings) my engine will have a whirring sound that becomes louder with more revs, and even louder when i turn the steering wheel (stationary and while driving) By the time i get to work the noise has gone and i may not hear it again for another couple of days.

To tell you the truth i think i have only noticed this since changing all my fan belts about 6weeks ago.

Since then i have also noticed that when ideling, the pully on my power steering pump wobbles, but is not loose like a dud bearing might be.

I have read a few other posts that discribe similar things as loose belts, air in power steering. Just wanting to see what others thoght.

Appreciate you time
Vanz

The belt could be too tight, I thought my pump was on the way out so loosening it incase it seized fixed my whine and fluid loss problems.

Mine does it too...on really cold mornings. I suspect moisture in the fluid that's freezing as the sound goes when the engine's warm.

Power steering service with new fluid, possibly new pump seals will fix it.
