EOI hilux coil conversion

Post by killalux »

hey,
just doin a bit of reasearch as to how many people would be interested in a DIY coil conversion kit to suit hiluxes, front only for now and possibly rear in the future.

kit would come with all nesasary brackets, contoll arms, panhard etc all ready to weld on. the kit will be based on what i have done on my on car, which is a 3 link arrangement that can get full travel from a 13" shock (possibly more, haven't tried). front caster angle is also adjustable. All arms will be supplied crack tested for safety.
there will also be a front sway bar kit available as body roll can be quite bad (as in any high travel suspension)
not 100% sure on price yet but would guess around $1500 - $1800 mark.

prob be about 9 - 12 months before this would become a reality as i want to do more testing and development first.

Anyway your comments would be greatly appreciated

cheers
steve

as long as the quality is good and not (quote your sig) "rough as guts"

you would need to research each states regs before you released.

It's up to the customer to make sure their vehicle is compliant - a supplier has no control over how his parts are used once in the hands of the customer. eg Toyota will sell anyone an 80 series rear lower control arm and it is perfectly legal for them do do that - the customer may indeed fit it to an 80 series in the stock location, or he may fit it to the front of a modified zook - there is no way toyota can be held responsible if the zook crashes or kills anyone.

Yes, that is true.

However from a marketing perspecive if you can sell a kit that can be legally used in XX state/states it is much easier to sell.

Obviuosly there would need to be a fitting proceedure that would need to be adheared to and a final engineers sign off etc.

Many consumers do not want to venture into the unknown, the easier you can make it for people the more you will sell.

Just finished putting 80 series diffs, coils, steering etc. in a 88 dual cab. Front is as close to the 80 set up as possible, had to affset some steering components to get around the sump. Rear end has half an "A" arm, so as fuel tank could remain in original location. All engineered and drives well.
