Im here for the sausage!
VERY VERY common on a CJ if it has poor maintenceDIRTY ROCK STAR wrote:Brad was that for aftermarket or stock ones again??
the real dilemna is he has broken 2 (1 each side) on consecutive trips on the beach.
he drives hard and gets some air but im suprised they are breaking like that.
Is this common on a CJ7???
The 5 bolt hub assembilies have a habit of working loose and then almost guarenteed to break if they are loose. I torque mine to spec every time I change the oil
earlier jeeps with 6 bolt hub are not meant to have this prob and is a common upgrade
a WARN premium hub upgrade also fixes the issue
The other one to watch is the 2 piece axle in the rear if it is assembled correctly and always done up to the correct torque it is not a big issue but if it is not then it will chew out the key way and spin one piece alloy axle kits are not that expensive and a worthwhile upgrade if u have bigger tyres and like the right foot even with the stock engines
Thanks for the advice
Ill keep an eye on them this time. I looked into getting Warn premium ones from the states they where about $100 US which I thought was bloody top notch. Priced them here and they where about $350.
Ill take it a bit easy now its winter and hopfully wont break any more for a while.

That's why we picked that destination - everyone one (that counts ) will be in a Classic Jeep and reliability problems are likely to be our biggest challenge......BUT all being classic Jeepers we'll be helping each other out and enjoying the trip.......
This one will not be about hard 4x4ing.
Come on ya know ya wanna

What so we have a 3 hour drive homeJeep_CJ7 wrote:That sounds tops but I probably wont venture that far for a 4B. I am bound to break something if i go that far. So far ive always been able to drive home but i dont want to test it with a 3 hour drive. Always keen for a mission around Newcastle / Nelson Bay area though
serriously though Wooders and I are organising this trip and it is based around older Jeeps so we expect breakdowns WILL be part of the weekend and this is taken into consideration, if none occur it will be a bonus.
It is not about hardcore 4x4ing for this trip it is all about getting out with other old jeep owners. Think of it as group therapy with beer
