How much Pressure Out of injector pump?????

Post by Big Bird »

Ive got a hilux with a 2LT motor. ive just replaced the injector pump cos i thought it was stuffed. But the problem is its not pumping fuel from the tank. if i fill up a funnel with diesel and fill up the line to the pump, it runs well, but it wont suck its own fuel from the tank. when the motors turning how much suction does the pump produce to draw fuel from the tank?? because there is bugger all suction from the line. If theres supposed to be heaps then i know then i know the pump is dodgy, if theres not then i guess the pickup in the tank is blocked....... any one know how much suction there is supposed to be???

Not sure about on the lux but on my 2H there is a feed pump on the side of the injection pump which draws fuel from the tank and pumps it to the injection pump. Maybe this is stuffed on yours. they may not have replaced it when you got a new injector pump.

is the filter and the strainer in the tank clogged? just running the pump dry it doesn't feel like there is a lot of suction there but it should actually pull fuel all the way from the tank. you can help it by pumping the primer on the filter. squirt a few squirts of motor oil into the pump to help it along, and crack alll the innjector unions to reduce to load on the pump until it gets fuel through.

thanks guys, i figured it out, the fuel tank was full of shit. so the pickup filter was choked up and it was too hard for it to suck through. runs sweet as a whistle now :D
