just adding to what bubs was saying about spectator placement. i really liked how close you could get to the rigs at XRCC round1, it was like you were on a normal trail run, not stuck behind a fence or glass wall. of course this could lead to troubles if someone decides to be and idiot, but everyone seemed to be well behaved from what i saw, and backed away when people were winching etc.

BTW, this pic was taken with no zoom

I thought that the spectator safety was blatently unacceptable at Round 1. Round 0 was much more acceptable but still far from impressive. This does nothing but harbour the beilief that 4wders are reckless and irresponsible. Q-Rock however was far far superior to each of the XRCC. If XRCC is to contiue, the organisers must really lift their game in this respect.

The tree that fell over at round 1 should have been removed when the first part fell off. At that time it was obvious that there was a reasonably high chance that the whole tree would come over. I am amazed that no one was hurt when the tree fell. I'd hate to think what would have happened if someone didn't get out of the way quick enough.

I hope the right people are reading this!

Oh....and yeah I liked being close to the rigs but I also enjoy my safety.

Yeah some really good points there!

As a driver the last thing i want to do is hurt on of the spectators!

But they still need to be close enough to the action!

I think there should always be some form of bunting all the way around the track!

Actually myself and Sam had a prob on stage one on the sunday where there was a spectator in the middle of the coarse bettween 2 gates and it took me 3 goes to get him to move out of the way so we could get through without running him over. He was just trying to get a real good pic with his camera

Spectator safety should not be left in the hands of the same person who is presiding over the running of each vehicle. How can anyone keep one eye on the vehicle and one eye on the crowd? It's easy to miss a vehicle running over a witches hat and they don't move and there's probably no more than 20 on the track at once. Trying to keep an eye on this as well as about another 50-100 people each with a mind of their own is impossible. Someone should be designated as a safety officer and bunting restrictions should be policed. I'd hate to see anyone get injured. :(

I was standing a good 3m further away from the track than that guy and I still moved away for my own safety. Once Sam found traction I found myself moving further back to prevent being run down by a TSL. Vehicles can be unpredictable and this needs to be taken into account.

Dave had trouble on the last stage with the crowd not letting him back to pic up a strap we dropped. The crowd shouldn't be allowed on the tracks at all. :x

That's the problem. As a compeditor you feel responible for the spectators. Compeditors should be able to concentrate on the track and thier vehicle without worrying about spectators. Without this, how can a compeditor drive confidently?

well i got in really close at round 1 and got some good photos (especially of drivers faces while they were driving) :D

only xrcc would have allowed this but i doubt round 2 will be the same. they will get tougher for sure.

yes there was one scary moment looking up the hill at the mogrover driving it in second gear  i never want to be in that position again.

HOLY SH!T :agrue:

What a can of worms, should have kept me mouth shut !

Whats funny now is that I'm in the sh!te here as well

Boss 1 - work = no problem, go for it even :D

Boss 2 - wifey = %$#% %$#%$ #*&*%& ^%^ #$#@.

I'll translate:

I'm a little insensitive and pushing it because I forgot that August is straight after July and baby number 2 is due early August, so for me to want to bugger off to Oz with the boys while mum could be in screaming labour is not a popular request.

Maybe have to revisit the trip idea a little later in the year.
