gq diesel rebuild
gq diesel rebuild
What's the going rate for a diesel rebuild on a 4.2?
Can it be done at home?
Can it be done at home?

search for a thread on Woops donk he is doing at home... You need somethings still to be done externally, but few grand in bits, $3000 last time I spoke to him
The amount of work required depends on how well its been looked after--oil changes etc. So far during my re-build, i've been very suprised at the little amount of wear after 550,000. BUT i dont want to be going through all this again so going the whole hog...
DOING everything--rings,liners,pistons,bearings,camshaft, valve lifters, valves, timing gears, gugeeons, gaskets, valve guides, precomp chambers, seals, cam bearings, welsh plugs.cyl head bolts will set you back around 7K using all genuine Nissan parts and doing it yourself.
During my rebuild, i sent the cyl head away to be overhauled but supplied them all the bits. The rest of the work, i will be doing myself. Going genuine, the most expensive parts are the cylinder liners--6 @$183 each, Pistons $64 each, Ring set $457 etc etc

Most of the work can be done at home. Make sure you have a good engine crane or lifting tackle as the engine is veeery heavy. You also need a good engine stand capable of taking the weight.
The cylinder liners are awkward to remove--you really need a press and suitable sized mandrel to remove and replace them. Everything else is pretty straight foward.

rebuild
Another quicky assuming everything runs ok ..
What would be the amount of k's (max) to rebuild on if wanting to fit a turbo??
ie. would you bother if it runs ok (good compression) at 100K's to rebuild it for a future turbo kit???

diesel rebuild
My turbo went on at 260,000 and now up to 320,000. Runs 11.5psi boost no problems yet, can't see why it wont go for 500,000+ with regular 5,000k oil + filter changes.
As soon as it was made idiot proof, someone went and designed a better idiot.
hi there....
