Edic Motor????
When driving the middy it all of a sudden loses power for about half a second, then will power up for about 3 seconds then lose power again.
This is the edic motor attempting to cut out the engine then moves to overfuel position then to run again. It does this periodically every .5 to 4 seconds depending on how many electrical accessories you are running. ie. high beam, spotties and aircon it occurs every half a second, day time driving with fan off about every 5 seconds.
any ideas???
there is a relay click coming from behind the glovebox. Believed it to be my immobiliser playing up but removed it and wired ignition up as per standard.
Help please, I'm trying to sell this engine.

mine has just started to do the same thing. i think its got some thing to with me having flat batteries. although it only has started to do since i went mud racing and also has loud tick in the head so it come of and will have to get that checked out to
HZJ73, lifted, crawler gears, double locked, sitting on 35's
EDIC SUX!
Having the same trouble with my bj40 atm.
It cut out completely when i was at menai last week. I opened the bonnet, and saw a burnt out wire near the battery, so i fixed that, could not see any other problem so started it back up, checked the wire to see if it was hot, it was fine and as i was closing the bonnet the wire caught on fire and melted completely! The engine was still running but power anywhere to lights, indicators etc. Still had power to overhead console as it had seperate feed from batt.
Removed the arm that connects edic motor to injector pump and drive albeit with no indicators or brake lights!
Later on when testing with a multi-meter i found a wire that had shorted to ground so fixed that. Everything seemed ok after that couldnt find any other problem (im an apprentice sparkie btw) so drove it to work the next day everything was fine until it cut out again, this time on southern cross drive in peak hour! And of course it had to cut out when i was in the far right lane too!
Anyway long story long narrowed it down last night to be the edic motor as the problem hoping when i take it out and take it apart, its just full of mud or something

ok ive been down this path... and heard of it on a few other ppls l
check your earth... toyota seems to have really bad body earths...
after weeks of head scratching trying to work out why the engine (3b in 75) would try and turn off when i turned the heater fan on it was solved by running anther earth from the battery to the body
try it you might be surpised
ive heard of ppl selling cars for dirt cheap with this problem and noone being able to troubleshoot it and its just a matter of a new earth lead being run

It will be either the earth from the edic motor or the oil pressure switch (not to be confused with oil pressure sender for gauge). To make sure its not the switch just disconnect it. For earthing check your wiring and earth point. I have directly wired mine to the battery not the body as it first was.
Thanks for the help guys. Deciding to leave it as is as I know the Edic is ok so must be the wiring. As the engine (3B with AXT turbo) and the rest of my running gear from the middy will be for sale soon it will need to be rewired when put in purchasers truck anyway. Just wanted to make sure the edic wasn't at fault when I sell it to someone who cannot test drive the engine (it'll be out of the car by the end of the weekend).
I'll just have to make sure i wire everything right with the 1HZ.
Thanks,
Ben
