Hi All,
I have just put in a body lift kit into my 90 SWB and would like to put lift blocks under the engine mounts so I can take out the 20mm gearbox spacers. This would lift the gearbox and shifters back up into the car and make it easyer to change gears.
The question is if I take out 20mm at the back do I put 20mm back in at the front, to keep the angle the same or would it be less because the engine mounts are in the middle of the engine and not at the very front.
Does putting lift block under the engine mounts put more of a strain on the rubber engine mounts than having them in the gearbox end? Or do you put them on the top of the mount, under would be easyer to change the length of the bolts.
I have adjustable upper arms that I can change the diff angle a little to help get the angles working OK.
Any help or info would be good.

Spacing things out isn't really an exact science.. Your doing it to get the pinion and transfer outputs within 3 degrees of opposing each other, sort of a bit here and a bit there kind of thing. What 20mm will do for my truck yours might need 23 sort of thing.
As far as engine mounts are concerned I dont think people raise the engine with spacers. Rather they purchase raised engine mounts. I would have said talk to Cheezy Racing but they have closed there doors to the public soooo find one of there resellers. I recall talking to mark and he called the mounts he made unbreakable sooo... I would go that route.
I agree though raising the engine is a much better option than dropping your crossmember.

You can just build some yourself. I lifted the motor about 43mm (I think). A couple of flat plates, some rectangle section, braced inthe middle, 4 new bolts and a couple of welding rods. All worked well and corrected the drive shaft vibrations. Worst bit was putting them in late at night, had to take the airconditioning pump off to get to the left fron bolt.

I removed the left engine mount on the weekend and made two spacer plates ready for this weekend to put it all in, if the new engine mount arrives ( to replace the left hand broken one that I found I had when I pulled it out, it fell apart )
