Enlarging the Radiator

Post by Jay »

Hi
on the Disco I's jsut wanna see if there is alum in the radiators? Seems to me they are made from brass execpt for the fins.

With my 2" BLK I m thinkin of going with a larger radiator (more surface area 2"x15"= 30"^2) ? to run my engine cooler especially in summer time with A/c on and a lot of uphill driving.
Any feedback on this

Hi, what i have seen done is a VR- VT commodore aluminium radiator and EL- EF falcon cooling fans, possibly even the commodore fan would do the job, worked quite well. ill see if i can chase up the dimensions,
Cheers...

OK now I get it BLK is Body lift kit.

Is the car a V8 or diesel? Could not id you on the Rover Union site.

I know of one guy in Sydney with a 6inch lift who has had a custom aluminium rad made by a custom rad place in Brisbane, but it is expensive at up to AUD 1000. http://www.are.com.au/feat/techtalk/ALUMRAD.htm
Usually guys just drop the Radiator onto the chassis by shifting the top mounts.

When I lived in Saudi ,I was able to keep reasonably cool with the following in my 81 Rangie.
Serck tropical core . I am sure there is an agent in Lebanon or Jordan
Mercedes Benz 280 SE 16 inch fan in front with manual switch
50/50 coolant
Good viscous fan
change hoses and belts every year

If going slowly the main need is more airflow through the core , as even with a big one you need the air through. I could stay below red line up to about 47C as long as the wind was not from behind.
Commodores are available in Saudi ( Chev Caprice) so maybe you could smuggle a radiator from Jeddah, but I think you would have trouble fiitting as they do not have a bottom mount like a Rover and with side mounts you will break the tanks off on high speed Wadi work.
Regard s Philip A
