SO the V8 plans for my Lux are probarbly off ... and now making diesal plans ..
What is the best (read easiest) diesal to swap in place of the mighty 18r ..
I am happy to swap boxs as well .. I just want something that will sit on 100... and be frugal on jucie ..
The drive is easy .. and has plenty of potential for post work wheeling

150km a day? do the maths on getting a little corolla/pulsar/excel/barina, something in the $2000 price bracket and reliable as - cheap on the juice and you can keep modifying the hilux and not owrry about it being off the road. the engine swap in the lux will set you back more than $2k and the best economy you can hope for is in the 10 - 11 litres/100km range, with a little shizzer hatchback you can get 6 - 7l/100km if it's mostly highway driving and you'r enot wearing out your expensive 4WD tyres etc etc.love_mud wrote:In a few weeks I will be starting a new Job .. 10-11 liters per 100 is fine by me .. And 7.50x16's are cheap as chips ..
As I already have the Lux .. and I hate the 18r with a passion .. I would prefer the spend the $$ on it .. (if 6 months down the track it is driving me mad .. a small bomb for the summer months may be OK) but tnen I have the extra lot of rego, insurance and maintenance to pay as well.

Thats what I was thinking .. will it bolt up to the existing mounts (chassis wise) ??dumbdunce wrote:in that case probably the most economical toy diesel will be a 2L (2.4) or 3L (2.8), the 2.4's especially can be gotten pretty cheap, and will stand up to mild turboing later on if you need a bit more.
The 2L or 2LT are the donks I have in mind .. How much harder is a 2tle .. and what if any would the benifits be .. and drawbacks .. (As I am sure that the E means lots of wireing and a poota of some type)
