gearbox backlash

Post by yella_rangie »

i recently blew the crap out of the rear end on my rangie and was wondering if the fact that i have alot of backlash to the rear drive shift from the transfer may be the reason for this. basically iwas drivin up a hil when the diff let go. not hammering it or watever. but when i removed the tailshaft i noticed alot of play in it while it was still attached to the transfer. i have heard of shimming or something to reduce this. can anyone supply me with more info or even pics on how to do this?
