is it worth buying a clutch alignment tool?

i've had a look around, and prices are way different, but i guess you pay for what you get.

plastic ones for $25 seem like one time use disposable ones, and the snap on kit with metal everything, not plastic, is about $80 or so.

i know its not something that you use every week, but i have a feeling that i might be the one called upon if i get one.

what have other people got, and how do they go?

also, some say just do it by eye, or go to the wreckers and get an input shaft to use, but the thing is, there are no zooks in wreckers up here, and my eyes arent always open enough to see straight, well so they say. (i'm asian)

anyway, is it worth forking out for the clutch alignment tool? i have to do my clutch, and a couple of my other mates with sierras are going to do their clutches soon too. i'd ask if they were interested in going halves or something, but they are just tight a$$'.

I use a piece of broom handle that I wittled down one end so it looks like an alignment tool

Yeah, thats the way to do it. A little lesson, there's a tool out there for every possible thing you can imagine, but if you were to buy them all you'd go broke. Improvise.

ok, thats settled, now what about a torque wrench? do i need one for the flywheel bolts?

people tell me its religious to use a torque wrench to tighten them all up, and the manual says too, but then people just say do them up f-ing tight and its set. obviously do them up diagonally, like wheel nuts, and head bolts and so on.

its just that i haven't had the need to use any of these tools yet, so does that mean i will never need them?

I own a torque wrench and use it for this job but I have done it without one

forget the clutch tool as ya will only use it prob once or twice but i'd deffinately get the torque wrench as they can be used heaps and are worth while having. especially when ya start doin heads or engine rebuilds etc.

get a tourque wrench, especially for flywheel bolts, you dont wanna snap those bolts in the flywheel, or crank, as you gotta get the broken bit out later,

buy a torque wrench and save the worry,

I've always found the best clutch alignment tool is an input shaft out of an equivalent gearbox that is in your vehicle. Can usually get a secondhand unit from a wrecker. So if it is a 1.3 Sierra you can get one out any model between 84 and 98.
