Whining rear end in my RR

Can any one suggest what might be causing a whining sound on deceleration on my 92 stock RR from 120Kph down to 40kph. It does the same regardless if Auto is in drive or neutral. The tyres are road based tread on the front and a little more aggressive like an AT on the rear. I will be replacing these when i can afford a 2 " lift and new set of tyres ( BFG AT ) but am not sure if that will fix the problem . Any ideas welcome.

Tell the missus to get out and walk! that usually fixes any whining.

Rear whine:

diff bearings or incorrectly set up gears.

Mitsubishi 2010 NT DID Pajero wagon, Factory rear diff lock, Dual batteries, ARB bar, winch, Mt ATZ 4 rib tyres.
1986 RR.
Custom suspension links etc.
HSV 215 engine.
4.3 diffs.

So you get a whine in nuetral when not moving, or when moving you shift into nuetral ? Do viscous centers whine when knackered ?

Thanks all for the suggestions , especially the missus comment :D , she doesnt ride in my car so I can't fix it that easliy. I'll get the diff oil checked out etc and check bearings. Considering this was a very clean original car when bought ,I doubt the gearing has been played with.

First switch the tyres around.
Is the noise the same?

Sounds like gear contact in the rear diff bearing noise will be consistent but tooth contact usually on accelleration or decelleration
Wanted: Car trailer or beaver tail truck, let me know what you got

Not if its the bottom pinion bearing. It will usually only howl when its on Deceloration.

It was just a general guide there is alot of possibilities but these are the most common symptoms so for the sake of 10 axle bolts 4 tailshaft and 14 nuts on the centre the best way to find out would be to drop it out.And always remember to us a good quality gasket and oil
