60's underwent a minor change in 88, got twin rectangular headlights, new grills blinkers, new dash and some other cosmetics.

It is quite country dependent. In Japan and Aus. they started in 1990. In the US they started in 1991, in Venezuela they even started in 1992.

In the states the petrols which recieved the cosmetic upgrades were called FJ62's.

In austrtalia they didnt change the "model" of the diesels, may not have changed the petrols either since an FJ62(US spec) as an EFI engine, as opposed to the AUS spec 88/89 FJ's which had carb.

mine is an 89 disel 60, and accoring to the VIN its a HJ60.

60 series models.

HJ60 ran from 80 to 90
HJ61 is the factory 12ht turbo diesel 60.
FJ60 ran from 80 to late 84 or thereabouts.
FJ62 started in late 84 early 85 with the introduction of the 3f petrol engine. It has nothing to do with the cosmetic changes that occured late 60 series with the square headlights.

And as far as i am aware, an HJ62 never existed, not here in Australia anyway.
If you want a spare 60 for bits-
