Post by GOT MUD »

i think i may have a prob with the convertor in my mq it was fitted to the truck when i bought it so i assumed it was all ok but now ive hooked up a cd player an am cb now i never really run both at the same time but when i turn the cd player up to about 15 it turns it self off for about 5 seconds then comes back on it keeps doing it until i turn it down would anyone agree that the convetor is not powerful enough for it or some thing else and if i have to buy a new one how would i know what to get

i dont know a lot about these converters, but it sound like it may have a self resetting circuit breaker. does it have a rating on it for maximum output. (this will be in watts hopefully) check that but it does sound like thats the problem

reducer problems

Post by mgundle »

the reducer you are using is probably doesnt have a inrush feature meaning when you start drawin a burst of curent the reducer shuts down to protect itself from melting
do you know how many amps rating it is or how large the unit is? eg. 5cm by 5cm or bigger?

Your converter isn't capable of supplying the current your CD player requries when the volume is turned up. You're sucking all the stored energy out of the converter capacitors, which causes the voltage to drop and the player to switch off. Once the current draw stops, the capacitors charge up again, the voltage rises and the CD player comes back on.

You need a larger converter.
