How do I know what gearbox is fitted to my bundy?

Post by gogo »

I have a 2LT bundy. Problem is I don't know what gearbox is fitted. I thought it was a G52F, but now I am not too sure. Maybe its as dumbdunce says and a R51. Guy I bought it from claims its G52F! Oh, and the model/frame plate is missing.

How can I easily tell the difference?

My Max Ellerry manual is no use on the subject!!!

afaik all turbos to late 1989 (2L-T motor) are R151F. the gearboxes are visually distinguishable if you know what both look like but I'm buggered if I could tell you what to look for to identify them without pulling them apart.

where did your build plate go?

maybe some other bundy drivers could post a pic of their gearboxes? the locations of the fillers and drains will probably give it away.

I don't know what both look like! The builders plate is MIA...no idea.

All I can tell you right now is the 4x4 lever is on the the right hand side of the main stick. Dunno if that helps or not.

Any distinguishable features underneath?

 ok wait for the piccy!

Theres no code on thes gearboxes either!!

Hmm, that cable you can see there, on what would be the l/h side of the vehicle is odd. In the Max Ellery book, there is a cable shown on the opposite side...what would be the r/d side of the vehicle.

It's a R series box. You can tell from the drain plug- the G52 is parallel with the ground like my 3L hilux, the R series has the plug perpendicular to the ground- coming "sideways" out of box, like in your pic.

Yeah I would have to agree there! I spent a lot of time on my back under my truck and it looks just like mine does! :D
